    Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the error I'm receiving. I get a 'Could not perform Endtrack' error everytime I try to burn a CD.
I've tried uninstalling the software, running the clean tool and reinstalling the software.
I've also tried burning with lots of different settings in Nero like TAO, DAO, finalising the disk, etc. But it makes no difference.
I cannot burn CDs using Window's built-in software either.

    Here's the error log: -

    How old is this writer.
There may be a firmware update.
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2079

XP needs a ASPI layer to burn. Nero has it's own.
Download and install a ASPI layer.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm

    Also your DMA is off.

    Thanks for the reply 56delray.

I've checked and there's no firmware upgrade for the drive. It is a new PC though.

I've also installed an ASPI layer but it's made no difference.

So, it looks like it could be a DMA issue. I've uninstalled all the IDE controllers as described in the thread you linked but it didn't help.
If I look in Nero InfoTool it says that my drive is on a RAID controller no an IDE controller. Could that be the problem?

You say it is a new PC but you have an old DVD writer?
Secondary channel is where most writers are hooked up.+

    P.S.
How many hard drives do you have?

It's a new PC and new CD writer\DVD reader combo drive.
The drive was working fine on the basic XP install that came with the PC but then an XP image with lots of software was installed on the PC and I've had this problem ever since.
I am right in saying it's strange that it says the CD drive is connected to a RAID controller? I thought that wasn't possible.
And it's just got the one SATA hard drive.

The problem might be because the XP image wasn't an image from the computer that you are using now.

Yes it is strange, but I am no expert.
    Why a RAID controller?
They are for systems with more than one hard drive.

BTW, 56delray, XP does not require an ASPI layer to burn. There may be burning programs that install one, but the only one that I have seen install one, is Nero. Pretty daft.

Hmmm, I'm stuck for things to try really, it is a bit strange.

I'm thinking it's a problem with the image; though it was (apparently) made on the same make and model PC.

Thanks for your help anyway guys.

Yes, the image IS the problem.
