    Hi sootman
    Welcome to aD

    Here's some suggestions:
Your drives firmware is up to date but it hasn't been updated since 3/05 so looks like your drive doesn't like the Ritek 16x media you are using.
You're also gettin an Illegal disc error.

So switch your media - 8x media would be better for this drive - if you can find it. If not pick up some 16x verbatim.

    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS
Nero and Roxio don't always play well together so uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool to remove all traces:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

    File 'Drivers\InCDpass.SYS
Nero's InCD can also cause problems. If you are not using it unisntall it too and run the clean tool for it.
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html

Take Nero down a notch to 6.6.0.18. Uninstall (write down serial #), run the clean tool than install from these links:
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html
    Package 1
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2 (recode & vision)
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Try those and keep us posted.

    Hello.

    Just a few points.

This Roxio driver has been known to conflict with Nero in some cases. Unless you have Roxio software installed, use the Roxio Zapper to remove it.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
    http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/EE6000061

If you also have Roxio software like Easy Media Creator installed, consider uninstalling it.

Nero's InCD can also cause problems, so if you don't need it, run the Nero InCD Clean Tool to remove it.

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/InCD_Clean_Tool.html

I'm also not a fan of Nero 6.6.1.4. I'd uninstall it with the Nero 6 Clean Tool and install version 6.6.0.18. Be sure to write down your serial number before running the Clean Tool.

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

    Nero 6.6.0.18:
    Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

If the above don't bring you relief, try using a different media, brand and as well as format, i.e., +R.

I'm also suspicious that your transfer mode may be creating a problem since it seems to be in PIO mode for the CD-ROM. Uninstall your burner and reset the transfer mode for your IDE channels as follows:

Reset the transfer modes for your IDE devices as follows:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
    Click the Hardware tab.
    Click the Device Manager button.
Click the "+" beside DVD/CD-ROM Drives.
Right click on the name of your DVD burner and select Uninstall.
    Click OK.

    Still in Device Manager:

Click the "+" beside IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Right click on the Primary Channel and select Uninstall.
    Click OK.
Right click on the Secondary Channel and select Uninstall.
    Click OK.

    Restart the system.

Here's a guide that may help if you get lost.

You might also try burning with ImgBurn instead of Nero.

    No problem sootman :)
Using the right media can make all the difference. Ones to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.

    Happy Burning
