Blow out my mobo plugging in a usb device(wiring inside was wrong). Anyhow I RMA my processor and the board. I receive my board back and waiting for the arrival chip. For now Im using a an old PII 400 mhz. after acquiring Nero online I tried a bit burning. I put in my old TDK cd-burner(in the P2) and tried burning an image. The first burned failed at about 80 percent then the next two burns failed at about 11 percent. I checked the event viewer and it said The Device cdrom1 has a bad block. I had used the cd-media (memerox 48x) before and had sucessful burns. I then tried burning a silmiar image on my laptop and all was good. Now Im afraid to try to burn stuff on my NEC-2500a bc all I have are taiyo yuden. Couuld the problem be the computer sucks or my drives dead???
check the psu on the sick computer as you might have blown it too. take the psu out of the case, remove 4 screws that hold the lid of the psu to the rest of the psu. look at the can shaped ojects to see if they are flat topped or domed as supposed to be flat. it is possible the drives are damaged & so can other things like your hd. try the drives on another computer to see if can burn or not.
I just opened it. All but 2 of the can shaped objects appeared to fine. The 2 were ever so slighty pretuded but it could have also be the light. The computer did start up but would lag in the BIOS after a couple of second but ever thing still got power. Also in the BIOS I could go to temp control then the lag actual the keyboard would stop responsing but the temp would still be changing(nothing was high) so I thought it was CPU problem till I put in friends computer and it worked for the 2 mins it was in(was in a rush).
Sure, it could easily damage any component. There's more than enough bandwidth in an IDE cable to put enough juice through to the drive's chips and transistors - it just depends how the surge progressed. But the problem you're having probably had more to do with the chip just not being able to keep up than with the drives being blown. Your computer can barely breath (assuming you have WinXP or 2000) already; expecting it to work out on a burner may be a bit much. On the other hand, you should be able to play Civilization I and II and maybe even Dune.
