Ok, for the past week I've been downloading software to try to make copies of the games Splinter Cell, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and The Sims Deluxe. I have tried CloneCD, Blindwrite, and Alcohol 120% to make copies and none of them have worked 100%. (Alcohol 120% made copies that worked if I chose the option to hide the media type, but I don't want that kind of copy. I want a copy that I can install on a totally different computer and not have to worry about hiding the media type.)
I have ClonyXXL which tell me that Splinter Cell's protection is Safedisc V 2.8, Medal of Honor Allied Assault's protection is Safedisc V 2.51 and The Sims Deluxe is Safedisc V 2.
My Cd burner is a Mitsumi CR-4804TE 2.4C
Does anyone know why I can't make good copies? Does it have to do with my Cd burner? If not, can someone explain (very simply please) how to go about making copies in case there is some small stupid step I am doing wrong? I would really like to make copies that are perfect or almost perfect.

My second question is that in the midst of all this downloading and trying to burn workable copies of my games, I noticed that I all of the sudden have a new drive labeled (D:). I do not know where this came from. My uncle says that it is a virtual drive or something like that. What does this mean and how did it get there? Did I do something to put it there unknowingly?

Thirdly and lastly, today I come home from nasty work and none of my games are working. (Even the copies that worked when I clicked on the option to hide the media). When I load each of my games (the actual discs) the play menu will come up, I click on play to play the game and then after a few seconds it says "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select Ok and restart application." Well, the correct CD-ROM is in there! Also, my one game No One Lives Forever 2 (which I haven't been trying to make copies of at all) doesn't even say "Please insert correct CD-ROM . . ." after the play screen where I click play to play it, it doesn't load anything at all.
    What is going on?
If someone could help me with any of these problems I would be forever grateful.

Forgot one thing. At GameCopyWorld.com, they say, "CD-Writer software like Adaptec Easy CD Creator will NEVER be able to copy protected CDs and in most cases only interferes with other CD-Writers software!" I happen to have Adaptec Easy CD Creator. Could this be part of the problem with why I can't make good copies?

Splinter Cell is a b!tch to get working. I had no problem making an image file of MoHAA. But Splinter Cell gives a lot of people problems. I've been trying to get it to work for a week now (internet download of the game) and I can't even get it to finish the the first disc.

You have a legal copy though, so making a backup of splinter cell shouldn't be any harder than any other Safedisc 2 protected game.

    Your Mitsumi CR-4804TE 2.4C [bold] isn't a "2 sheep burner (EFM encoding) [/bold]

    A) Yes

When you installed either CloneCD or Alcohol 120%, you now have a virtual stealth drive. These come in very handy as you can mount the image of MOHAA, Splinter Cell (play cd) and play the game with emulation (hide cd-r/ignore media type).

NOLF 2 is SecuROM 4.8.x cd protected. You should be able to make a working backup using Alcohol 120%. The key here is to create (or download) a working bwa (or mdf) file. I have added a guide in the sticky threads on how to do so.

Safedisc 2x and SecuROM 4.8 can be a nightmare to backup, but with the proper software (Alcohol 120%, BlindWrite Suite) and proper hardware (cdrw/burner), one can easily backup these tough cd protections. My advice, grab a Lite-ON LTR 52/32/52 or 52/24/52x burner. If you find the price of these burners a bit too expensive then grab a Memorex MAXX 40/48/52x burner (rebagged Lite-ON).

[bold] Your backups "should play" in your burner (Splinter Cell/The Sims Deluxe/MOHAA) if you burned RAO DAO and enable emulation.

Thanks Shoey. If you got time could you answer a few more questions?

It is possible to make a copy of a game that I could then use to install the game on a different computer without needing to do anything about the emulation options?

Because my CD burner is not a 2 sheep burner, does this mean that I can never make a 1:1 copy of one of my games (a copy that doesn't need me to hide the media type)?

Depends on what cd protection you're backing up. If you own a "2 sheep burner" (EFM encoding) then "most" of your backups will play on another pc. Safedic 2.x& SecuROM 4.8 are very tough cd protections, but my Polaroid BurnMAX48x (BTC drive)= butta cutta' easily defeats both cd protections. Other popular brand name "2 sheep burners":
    1) Lite-ON 32/40/48/52x
    2) Asus 40/48/52x
    3) Memorex Maxx 40/48/52x (rebagged Lite-ON)
    4) Polaroid BurnMAX 40/48/52x
    5) BTC 40x and up

Even if you owned a "2 sheep burner",backups of Safedisc 2.x (and other cd protections) are [bold]not "true" 1:1 backups, merely "modified" [/bold] If you own a 1 sheep burner and wan't to install\play on another pc you'll need emulation, or the aid of a ATIP tool (hide cd-r\ignore media type) usually meaning the software installation to play the backups (Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools). My advice, grab the Lite-ON LTR 52/32/52 or 52/24/52x cdrw. if you find these burners a bit too expensive then grab a Memorex MAXX52x or a Polaroid BurnMAX52x, both butta cutta's! (hehe)

I have both Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. With either of these loaded onto the computer that I want to install my copied CDs on, they should work? Could you please explain how I go about doing this?

Open Alcohol 120%>Options>GeneralVirtual Drive>and set to what you desire (4). Go to emulation and for now, enable all and insert your backup in your [bold] burner [/bold] and install\play your backups.
