Does anyone know how to convert NTSC Sony TRV950 and VX2000 camcorders to PAL B/G. All suggestions are welcome. After conversion can they be reconverted back to NTSC. After each conversion do they perform perfect or there are some lacunae in format conversions.
You're talking about DV right? Canopus has a software solution called ProCoder which will convert all kinds of video formats, including NTSC<->PAL. I use their older product, DVFC which only works with their DV codec, but produced very good results. I couldn't really notice any nasties due to the conversion. You may want to try their demo for ProCoder which you can download. I think it inserts a watermark without the USB dongle.
Thanks excellent reply! Can vice versa is also possible later. Or it will only do a irreversible chnage and that too once like DVD system change.
I would like to change the above "camera systems", that is the system inside the camera back and forth PAL<>NTSC not its output. Is that also possible. I came to know through somebody that can also be done thru some software and hardware changes.
Canopus Procoder can only make changes to what camera has produced not to the camera hardware so that it starts producing in PAL or NTSC whatever one like to do.
Oh, now I get your meaning. Ummm... sorry, not that I know of. I have not seen anyone doing mods of this kind. It would be nice to have a ntsc/pal switchable camcorder tho. Rgds, jnihil.
I seem to remember seeing a NTSC<->PAL converter hardware (standalone external unit) with iLink input/output whilst I was in Japan. I'll do some digging and see if I can get you some info. Later, jnihil.
Nah, I was wrong. They're just digital/analog converters. The only NTSC/PAL conversion units I found were analog only ones. I would personally stick with sw converters for now. The mods sound expensive. Also, should you buy a new camcorder, you can continue using the sw (but I guess if you have a VX2000 you won't be doing that for quite a few years!) Rgds, jnihil.
