Hi guys n gals,I,m trying to get an acer 240 up & running...when applied power without the cpu the fan will spin..the batt lights on charging & floppy light on..no power lights or num lock lights etc.. As soon as i apply power with cpu in a ticking noise can be heard on motherboard,with same lights on & no power light...the cpu is from an acer 240 but different model & is 2.5ghz,the cpu should be 2.4ghz. I bought both models off ebay hoping for an easy fix,yeah right!,i no very little about motherboards and was hoping it was just a dc jack replacement...my skills can just about do that...anyways i,ve order a 2.4ghz...I,ve a multi reader but don't know where to start..can any of u more experienced people let me know what it could be...thx sienoki.
Just letting you into a little secret... broken stuff sold on fleabay is sold by people like me getting hard cash off n00bs for things we know are beyond economic repair. What do you have there.. probably a faulty mobo.. a faulty cpu and a dead screen. Doubt if the battery will be any good either. Check the sellers other items back a ways.. chances are they either have been buying faulty laptops or sell "refurbished" ones. I get machines like this brought to me from time to time.. My simple rule is.. if they don't start at least enough to show a bios or boot splash screen then they are scrap. By the time you buy a new battery screen mobo hdd and cpu you might as well have just bought a working one in the first place. There are no "easy fix" items on fleabay.. people take lappys to computer shops when they fail.. and then when they get the bad news that it will cost more to repair than it's worth they sell them on fleabay.. Yours have probably been around through 3 or 4 other "repairers" before you got them.. being stripped of anything useful in the process.
Hey up fella,the first 1 i bought had a brand new batt as well as another 1 that charges..the screen i don,t know but lcd inverter does as i,ve tested on another...so the 1 i'm trying to get working via donor parts from the other starts up the fan & lights(no power lights)from the batt aswell as psu...so fingers crossed its just the cpu..the 1st 1 i checked the sellers feedback & no other laptops etc been sold..so took a chance & got shafted..the other 1 sold spares & repairs lappys but sworn by just needed cpu to get to bios...no more fleabay init...do u think it could be an easy fix if cpu does the same ticking noise...thx fella..sienoki
