You all were such a big help with my recent problem, I thought I would ask about the nuisance. Every morning when I turn on my computer (Dell, 98SE, 80gig (with old 10gig as slave), 256RAM), it tells me that I did not proeperly shut it down and that it must scan the disc for errors. Waiting for the scan is at least time consuming. It has done this for months, even though I shut it down from the Start button. I have defragged both drives. Any ideas about how to make this stop? Thank you. Tom

Thanks for the quick reply. It has been years since Windows was installed. I was hoping for an easy fix. I can re-install windows if it is not too difficult, but I am thinking that is deeper into computer stuff than I should venture. Would I have to reinstall everything on the hard drive again after I reinstall windows? Thanks. Tom

could either reinstall windows on top of selve without having to reload all your programs which might not solve the scandisk problem or blow the drive out to do a fresh install
