This is probably a pretty dumb question but I was just wondering if there is any way to copy a DVD that has a one inch crack in it. I tried to run it through DVD Decrypter and obviously I got read errors when it got to the crack.

NO and its not even a good idea to put it in your drive it can lock it up and cause problems reverting you to PIO mode or worse like ruining the drive, toss it and get another DVD

Second ZoSoIV on that. My daughter put a cracked DVD rom in the drive. The thing literally exploded in there.

It spins really, really fast. ;-)

That's a fourth from me, i've been a few feet away from an exploding CD, the whole office thought a PC power supply had exploded.

Ok, everyone agrees that a disc with a crack should be destroyed, but what about those with deep scratches on the surface.

I have heard of solutions to polish the surface, and even toothpaste to polish the surface until something like dvd decrypter can read the disc again.

Creaky: That looks like the disc that I had in a paper sleeve, placed it in my back pocket and accidentally sat down on it!! Coaster city and a big pretty blue glob.

DigiBear: Some have had success with Skip Dr,sold at a lot of Brick and mortar stores like walmart. If you have a major video rental store nearby, they usually have an industrial disc buffer and can do it for you for a couple clams.

Here's a guide on how to buff out those deep scratches:
