Greetings- I am trying to convert a VHS home movie to DVD-R for a friend in the UK. The final disc will need to be playable on a Region 2 DVD player. Are there any programs available in the US for purchase or download that will create Region 2 DVD-Rs; or, are there any methods for creating a disc that can get around the Region 2 limitation? I have used the search function and cannot find anything relevant to my question, and have reviewed a number of the FAQs (though I could have missed something). Any suggestions or recommendations will be most appreciated. Thanks for your time-
I thought that only commercial dvds had regional protection. This is a protection that movie companies use. "Motion picture studios want to control the home release of movies in different countries because theater releases aren't simultaneous (a movie may come out on video in the U.S. when it's just hitting screens in Europe). Also, studios sell distribution rights to different foreign distributors and would like to guarantee an exclusive market. Therefore they required that the DVD standard include codes to prevent playback of certain discs in certain geographical regions. Each player is given a code for the region in which it's sold. The player will refuse to play discs that are not coded for its region. This means that a disc bought in one country may not play on a player bought in another country. Thanks for that! I guess it's true that you learn something new every day. Somehow it got by me that Regional restrictions are imposed on the DVDs by the manufacturer and has no bearing on personal DVD-Rs. Thanks again for clearing that up.
