I just burned my first movie copy and it didn't work in my Toshiba 2200 dvd player. The disc works in my computer just fine. I used the NEC 2510A and a Fuji DVD+R 4x disc. I used DVD Decrypter to rip the movie, then Shrink to burn it. While decrypting, I got an error during one of the decryptions and chose to use a previous something or other, can't remember what it was talking about. Anyway, I burned it ok, works on my computer, but not in my toshiba player.

I read ScubaPete's review on which media to use. My friend has been burning movies on Memorex discs just fine, and those play on my Toshiba. I realize this is my first backup.

I have a couple questions. First, could the fact that the movie I burned from was scratched have anything to do with the burned dvd not working on my Toshiba? I figure that it does not matter, since it works on my computer. Second, could it be that Fuji discs don't work in my Toshiba player, while Memorex discs will play?

Finally, I was reading about my player on the player compatibility list on videohelp.com, and someone named Jer posted that he successfully plays DVD+R on his Toshiba 2200. He said that "the compatibility mode has to be set to DVD-ROM. If the mode is left at DVD+R or DVD+RW you always get a check disk error." What does this mean? I really hope that I can make my movies with the Fuji discs so I haven't wasted my money.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any tips and answers you give are gratefully appreciated.

Your Toshiba does not play +R media only -R. My daughter's Toshiba 2800 is the same way. Movies I burn on +R won't play on her player. The -R burns play great. Videohelp.com shows your player as a -R player only.

My friend burns his movies on Memorex DVD+R's and they work on my dvd player. So why not the Fuji DVD+R's?

Are you sure your friends player is the same model? If there was a fix to change the compatibility, it would be listed on the videohelp site. Memorex media is junk at present time. Stay away from it. If your friend thinks he has a fix for your player, have him help you on yours. I really don't think its going to help but I could be wrong. Videohelp.com usually isn't wrong.

My friend's Toshiba is a much newer model. But that's not the issue, because the Memorex movie copy he burned (DVD+R) works on my Toshiba player, while the copy I made on a Fuji disc (DVD+R) doesn't work. I was comparing the two burned movie discs (Memorex DVD+R to Fuji DVD+R) with the Nero InfoTool and noticed that on the Memorex disc, it showed the type was DVD Video, while the Fuji disc had a type of DVD Video with DVD+R in parathesis after it. Could that be related to why one works in my Toshiba while the other does not?

The media type ID for the Fuji disc is R01 while the memorex has a type ID of F01. Could it be that one DVD+R will work in my Toshiba player while another DVD+R won't? There are so many variables it makes my head spin. Could someone post and explain which variables are important towards determining if the disc will play in certain players? For example: speed disc was burned at, media size, brand of media, ripping software, burning software, etc.

Ultimately, I would like to know if I should give up on the Fuji DVD+R discs and order some Ritek Ridata 4x DVD-R discs. Is there anyone who knows for sure that the Ritek DVD-R discs will work in my Toshiba 2200? Or will I be making another gamble by buying them?

As I tried to explain earlier, the fact that a few +R discs played in your 2200 was probably just luck. IT IS NOT RATED FOR +R media. You are fighting a battle that I don't think you can win. You may get 1 out of 10 burns that may work. Media brand may help but its still the wrong format.
