    Hi spitfire6
So you crossflashed for better support on 16x media?
What media are you using? Which firmware version of the sohw-1693S did you flash too?

well i'm using Verbatim DVD-R 16x. the firmware that I think I use because I don't remember was:

    KS0B - patched - crossflashing (for 1673S, etc.)

The error message could be pointing to your discs. Verbs are great stuff but a bad batch can even happen to the best of them.
You can try the patched KC4B for the LiteOn 1693 or another option is trying different media like made in Japan only Sony or Fuji - usually made by Taiyo Yuden.

Check and make sure all your drives are in DMA mode and not PIO esp. the burner. Check the 'current transfer mode' too - dma should also be listed here.
    Here's a guide if needed:

the khypermedia 8x and the MAXELL 8x work for me, but I don't know why these Verbatim 16x are giving me a hard time. The day I crossflashed the dvd burner I did a backup with a Verbatim and it went well. The I try the other day to do other backup and it didn't work.

I'm gonna try the KC4B for the LiteOn 1693 to see if work and to check if my burner is in DMA.

You may just have a bad batch - usually 16x verbs are good even on burners that don't write 16x (yours does though). The other media burns fine for you.
The patch said 'improved burning quality' so may just do the trick.
    Hopefully it will.

I installed the patch but it's still giving me that problem. I try to do the DMA but the tutorial is a little confusing. In the tutorial, in the part that says to unistall the device I unistall the two devices or just one( i got a cd-rw and the dvd-rw)

You could just uninstall the one ide controller - both drives are probably attached to the secondary as device 0 & device 1).
Usually the hard drive(s) is on the primary and the drives are on the secondary.

Looking more like a bad batch if your drives are in DMA mode.
