i have a HP pavilion xv74 it has a great picture on it and ive always loved my monitor but i recently moved my room around and for some reason when i keep the monitor straight it has a greenish tint to the left top corner that goes away when i rotate it right. if i rotate it left the green gets worse. theres no extra speakers around the monitor and the logitech pc sub is under the table just like before. ive tryed the degause manual option since ive heard that fix it but it doesnt Anyone have a idea? does my wall have a magnet in it or something?

Is the cable to it securely attached at both ends?

There might be a bad connection inside it.

no. All the CRTs I've owned can be picked up, rotated, slid, shaken (though the latter probably isn't advisable!) with no effects on the picture they deliver.

Wow that video makes a loud noise lol - I'm guessing it's a bug with one of my codecs. I can't really see what's wrong with the monitor from that video, the scan lines are too prominent.

    I see the tint now.
If it only happens when you move your monitor, the fault is clearly with your monitor - that isn't something that's meant to happen - you'll either have to live with it, or replace the monitor - it being a CRT I'm guessing it's quite old and out of warranty so you might wish to consider a cheap LCD replacement.

well if i leave it turned the tint is gone and looks great. im gonna avoid upgradeing to a lcd monitors because lcd have better black level whioch is easy on the eyes. tvs tho lcd is fine i just dont really wanna upgrade. i dont see why it does it. is the a magnet around the house? does a air conditioner have a magnet? the air condition is outside my room but i dont see how it would effect it threw the wall?

The black level of LCDs is so much better than it used to be, and the lack of flicker/fuzz present in even the best of CRTs makes them far easier on the eyes than any CRT will ever be.

    Magnets do nothing to LCDs.

Also, they're not available in the UK so I have no personal experience, but the general picture quality of Westinghouse TVs and monitors seems very lacklustre compared to proper monitors - if you think that TV is what LCD monitors look like you're mistaken. A proper monitor like a Dell Ultrasharp or Samsung SM223BW for example is miles better.

Yeah.. there is certainly some magnetic field nearby.
Have you tried turning it to where the effect5 is worse than turning the monitor off.. leaving it 10 minutes and turning it on again.. There is a circuit which demagnetises the crt (actually the shields and other metalwork inside)
I buy a lot of old crt monitors with various faults, and they will generally clear these purity erors if you go through a few turn on and off after a few seconds, then leave it 5 minutes and do it again a few times.

You can check for magnets with a compass.. have a look for this strong stray field because it is hazardous to HDD's too.

i didnt mean by comparing it to my westy lcd ive just always new lcd dont have greta black levels. they can be dark but never completly black like crts. My lcd tv looks fine im just saying blacks will always be better on crts. the widescreen on lcd monitors is a plus. I just like my 85hz refresh rate over most lcd monitors below $200 are all 60hz. When i was buying my tv is picked my westy lcd over plasmas and crt simply because plasma ive always heard have horrible burn in this is why ive not seen a plasma pc monitor. And no crt because i dont think they even sell 720p crt thats 32" or above maybe online but wouldnt have hdmi and shipping would be insane. hmm way off topic. anyone know if a air conditioner has magnets? i really just want to be able to set my monitor straight i donno why it turn green like a magnet is near it when there isnt one.

I live in kentucky alot of caves and stuff im not sure if theres a magnet nearby in the ground or something? its weired tho the magnet must be very very very strong to reach threw the wall. if i turn it competly around its not there its just to the 1 side of the house lol its so odd
