OK,I'm a newbie to this whole thing. I recently found some files on a server in my building that had been placed there by someone on the outside, which appeared to be VCD files from a couple of recently released movies. Obviously those files have now been deleted, but for curiosity sdake, I just would like to know what they were exactly, they were tar files, and extract to folders, but how would I put those to a VCD?

you were hacked probably by a warez chan! You should check your upload bandwidth and upload amount for the last few months.

Basically they scan for vulnerabilitys and when they find them they basically turn ur machine into a file server for their warez chan. This is called rooting.

The TAR files are files containing numerous rar file that can be used to extract probably VCD or SVCD images which can be burned with software like nero burning rom!

I'd recommend you look into the security of your servers!

Yes, I've been tightening things up all day to reduce the chances of this happening again. The TAR files extract to two folders, CD1 and CD2 with files all with .r## extensions. Can these just simply be burned to CD-R's to make a movie? Or will Nero extract the files and burn the VCD from the TAR files?

In the files with the extensions .rxx, there should also be a .rar file. Open it in WinRAR, and click "Extract To", it will then extract, more than likely, bin and cue files to whatever location you chose. See each .rxx file is just a portion of the bin file, split up. When its extracted ull have the full CD Image. Then with Nero, you can just click recorder - burn image and it will burn it to CD. If you have older versions of nero it will be file - burn image!

hmm..cool. Well, hopefully this will be the last time I have to ask about this stuff, since hopefully there won't be any more files on my server!! Thanks for feeding my curiosity. :)
