I just started messing with my computer today and i have a viewable movie on my computer in an avi. format which i can play on Window media player. How do i place this movie onto a DVD?? thxs guys
It needs to be converted to Mpeg2 format. Here's the link you'll be looking for: http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/Audio-Video/vsoDivxToDVD.html
Yes- didn't like it much (tho' I've heard good things about it). But it's freeware so you're best trying both programs and see which you're comfortable with.
i started with avi2dvd a while ago and now its on a second pass or something? what happenes with this second pass or when its done?
I can't remember much about it, to be honest. Here's a link that will help: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm
the main difference between a one pass/2 pass convert is that a 1 pass will use a set bitrate, whereas a 2 pass will use a variable bitrate (better quality) some high action frames will suffer using a set bitrate i use vso's convertXtodvd for converting although now i have got a dvix player,so dont use it much anymore (i now burn up to 6 movies on 1 disk)

You can also use the trial version of Nero, heres a simple guide on how I burn my AVI files to DVD....as you can see, NO conversion is necessary http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/356114/2104525
yes,but dont forget you can only burn and play avi's on a dvd with a dvd player that is compatible. the normal run of the mill dvd players wont play avi's not sure what you meant with that link gwendoline, nero vision is an encoding tool you said use it for burning avi's without conversion?,but you cant do it like that. for burning avi directly onto dvd disk, they can be burnt as data, but only if you have a dvix player
@Hursty, I burn a lot of AVI files to DVD. The only prog I use is NeroVision, I do NOT convert the AVI files, I just add them to NeroVision and let it do it's thing....I do NOT do any prior conversion of the files before adding to NeroVision as per my example. I do NOT burn them as Data.
Nerovision is converting them to DVD complient files when adding them into Nero. I use WinAVI myself. It is quick and the quaility seems to be good. I then use Adobe Encore if I wanna add a menu and make a DVD out of them. They turn out great. If I dont want to make a menu then I will just burn them to disc like Hursty does and play them on my Xvid complient DVD player.
Yes that may be true but what I am saying that it is not necessary to convert the AVI files to DVD before burning them with Nero, just let NeroVision do the job for you....this is the SAME way that alkohol does his as per his example http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946 I have absolutely no problem with the finished quality.
Yea nerovision is like the best if you want something done fast does not take 4 hours to convert the thing to DVD format. Also quality is great no menus though....
still a bit lost gwendolin?,maybe it was a mis-quote on your part without trying to start something..,you say you dont convert the avi's,when actually you do. nerovision is just like any other [bold]all in one encoding app[/bold],it converts avi's,the only main difference compared to some other app's,it has a burn engine on another note, nerovisionexpress is quite easy to use,i used to use it a while back, and you can add menu's with different backgrounds. but i did get fed up with the time it took, especially on a 2 pass. i didnt rate the quality to be honest,i found nero often took the video and sound out of synch, and the amount of time it all took, didnt justify the output in terms of quality. what i did was test as many app's as i could.winavi, dvd santa,dvix2dvd,avi2dvd,nve,film machine/cce,you name it,i have used quite a few. the film machine/cce used to give excellent results, but on a 2 pass,it could take up to 24 hrs just for 1 avi. but now,as i said earlier, you cant go wrong with vso's convertXtodvd. but like everything else, each to there own good luck!!! kind regards
What I am referring to with my statements is that I do not go through the process as some do by using AVI2DVD as in this and then burning with Nero...or using some other program to convert before burning with Nero...I do it ALL in 1 step, with NeroVision. Maybe I should have said no PRIOR conversion is necessary. I also use ConvertX which I find also does an excellent job.
