I am seriously considering building or purchasing a new computer, but here is my problem. I don't want to purchase one with a pre-installed OS because I get so tired of all the crap on them. My current computer was preconfigured with WinXP and came with recovery disk, but those disk cannot be used on another system, not smart enough to know why just know it doesn't work. So is there any way that I can create my own off of my existing system? If not, my second question is, if I reuse my HDD with my current OS in the new system, will it work and if it does work am I screwed if I ever crash or need to reinstall for some reason? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. They will not be identical boards- my current computer is 7 years old so it is pretty outdated. Having trouble with some programs such as DVD Rebuilder, so I guess that I am just out of luck and will have to purchase a new copy of XP. By the way, dumb question, what is bsod?

Oh yeah....I'm an idiot. I have learned to make peace with the blue screen as he likes to keep me company far to often. :(
