I just reformatted my system, got everything tweaked up and then went to go burn a CD (Nero/CDRWIN, ASUS CRW-5224A Firmware 1.01) and I realize that the highest possible speed I can select is 24x. Odd when I know that the burner is capable of 52x. So after some investigation (first removing CDRWIN5.05 and then CloneCD 4.202) nothing was solved.... I was still capped at 24x. So I picked CyberLink's PowerDVD 4.0 XP at random, uninstalled it and lo and behold I had by 52x capability again. Has anyone every experienced or even heard of something like this?
I'm running Cyberlink PowerDVD 5.0 and my burning isn't limited but I only burn music (cd's) at max. DMA enabled? Sorry WinDVD fans as I'm not a [bold] "fan" [/bold] Shoey
Thanks for the replay Shoey! An update: I made reformatted and made a Norton Ghost Image then I did this: 1. Installed PowerDVD Pro 6 2.25 2. Installed Nero 3. Noted that my Burning speed was annihilated 4. Installed CDRWIN5.05 (with the ASPI, without the VirtualDrive) 5. Installed CloneCD (with the CloneDrive) 6. Realized that my burner was capped at 24x 7. Running InfoTools, it told me the System ASPI was installed and fine, running the Adaptec ASPI Checker thingy, it said that the ASPI was not installed properly. 8. Updated/Reduopated to ASPI 4.60 9. Everything was fine 10. I opened up PowerDVD, closed it, opened up CDRWIN, closed it and opened up CloneCD and closed it. 11. Fired up InfoTools and my burner was capped at 24x again! grrrrr..... BTW, DMA is fine..... do you think it might be the firmware? (Running 1.10, current is 1.35). I also repeated everything with PowerDVD 4.0 XP to no avail.... _X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 360GB [3x120GB, 7200, 8MB] MSI Starforce, GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB AFTERDAWN IRC: irc.emule-project.net, #ad_buddies COME SAY HI![/small]
LOL Silly me... all this time i thought it was a bunch of stuff but in the end i found it was just the damn CDR media! arrgh! The reason i never suspected the discs was that the discs were labeled to be certified for 32x... so i was thinking.... 24x.... 32x..... nahhh. Tried a different media and bingo... 52x again. So now just so everybody knows the media was labeled as Xenon Pro discs (orange top, greeny-yellow bottom) ATIP: LeadOut: 97m15s17f Lead In: 79m59s74f Manufacturer: Ritek Recording Layer: PhthaloCyanine Material). DIscs are labeled 32x but are actually 24x.... argh for 32x
