I am trying to make a back backup copy of the very first Star Wars movie with AnyDVD & CloneDVD2. Whenever it gets to one part of the movie (around 49%). I get the error message --""cyclic redundancy check" and am unable to continue. I tried to break it up into 2 discs & I still get this error at the same point in the movie. It also has happened with "The Empire Strikes Back". These are new discs & there are no scratches on the discs. I tried using DVD XCopy Express & had the same result. Any suggestions to try?

99% of CRC errors are disk related, try cleaning your disk really good, and if it does not work then take it back and get another original.

BrucePa, use DVDD to decrypt movie, then use DVDS to tlke out whatever you don't want-burn just main movie to fit on SL disc. In DVDS options, uncheck burn with nero. After DVDS has finished shrinking your movies DVDD will automatically start and burn it to your blank media. Sounds like those discs may have arccos ccopy protection on them hence the CRC error reports. Hope this works for you. Oh yea, it never hurts to clean the original before attempting backups anyways.

None of the Star Wars movies have any special protection on them, I have backed up my set twice to single layer and dual layer. Used Xcopy for the single layer and DVD Decrypter for the dual layer, more than likely BrucePa your errors are caused by some imperfection in your original.

    Hello,
In regard to the cyclic redundancy check when copying a copy:

I've had this happen several times, I've looked at/cleaned the
disc and still have problems with most of the discs, I use verbatim blanks too.
Sometimes I can copy with no problem, but if you have even a slight scratch it will prevent you from copying the disc, I am not careless with my discs, either.

I had a "redundancy error" with my reader drive on every disc, so I ended up replacing it, it was a Lite=On drive that came with my computer, I replaced it with the same brand an it works fine, now.

DVD Shrink is no longer updated by the Author, and any CRC redundancy check problems I have had have been resolved by using DVD Decrypter, then DVD shrink to fit decrypted movie on single layer DVDR. Star Wars movies may not be decrypted.... try DVD Decrypter and see. If you can get it on your HD you can do more with it.

I agree with regards Clone DVD, nice interface etc but had problems with virtual drives and DVD Player would not play copies. Could only play copies in DVD-RW Drive. De-installed Clone DVD, problem resolved. Clone DVD also prevents cloning of copyrighted DVDs. Then we should ask ourselves, "What is it for exactly?"?

Maybe you should use the "real" CloneDVD 2 from Slysoft.

Unfortunatly, some people don't check to see what they're getting. The "Name" confusion is unfortunate and the "real" CloneDVD 2 takes a lot of undue "badmouthing", generally by people who do not know what they are talking about.

It's obivious you must have dificulty in using it properly. It definately does not "suck" :)

    "CloneDVD v2.8.5.1

CloneDVD is an easy to use, wizard-driven DVD-9 to DVDR backup software. It is capable of backing up either the complete DVD including all the chapters, extras, and menus, or just the selected titles. If necessary, CloneDVD will compress the video content to fit a single, 4.3 gigabyte DVD-R.

The software also includes a basic ISO/UDF and IFO/VOB writer, using which pre-authored DVD content can be burned on DVD.

CloneDVD is not capable of reading from CSS protected DVDs, so you will need something like AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter, if you want to backup such DVDs"

AfterDawn usually doesn't suggest one use "sucky" programs.

    Perhaps...

I suppose, if it works for you then use it.

@bilbo: Its no use arguing with someone that doens't understand burning software. If thats his opinion, let him suffer with another program he probably doesn't understand.

Hello all...I just joined so this is my first post. Am use to being able to reply using "quote" button, couldn't find one here ....LOL

My question is, I have a Lite-On DVD burner, not very old - only installed a few months ago and it works 99.9% great. However, the other day I was trying to make a copy of a burnt dvd and at 95% encoded it failed.

The burnt copy plays in its entirty in media player 10, power dvd and even on our player in the living room, so I know the disk is ok. Any suggestions why this is happening....

I did find a way around it, I dubbed the dvd on to vhs then dubbed it back to dvd..perfect copy!
