we recently bought an 1080p 60mhz samsung tv for christmas and upon plugging our cheap (non hd) dvd player in and watching a few movies the quality of the picture is terrible, it is only plugged in with the yellow white and red avi cables now, and it says that component cables are better connection, but i was still suprised that the picture was worse then our old (ancient ) tv, is there some setting on the dvd player you need to change when you get a new tv or should we just get component cables,?

I had the same problem and switching the cables seemed to produce a better quality picture
My dvd recorder is an ILO 04 (old as heck, but still useful)
Sure doesn't hurt to try it.
