I posted previously about this issue, but I had a new question so I thought I would start another thread.

I got my video card and motherboard RMA'd... Unfortunately intel said it would take 4-6 weeks to get a replacement for the CPU, and I don't want to wait that long...

There's a "spot" on one of the pin contacts of the CPU, and I wanted to know if it is safe to try it out on the motherboard... I don't want it to cause damage to my replacement board... I can just go and buy a new one if there's a risk. The "spot" seems to be some type of scratch covering one entire pin circle and very small portion of the surface area around the circle.

    Thanks!

If its just a surface mark/scratch then it won't hurt to test it.
Even if the CPU is fired, it just won't allow the board to post, so booting it won't hurt.

Depending on what happened at the start of your troubles, there is always a small chance that the cpu caused the other components to fail (unlikely though)
Its strange you needed to rma a mobo, gou and you think the cpu is faulty, it sounds like you did something wrong to cause a problem (but that is without knowing the history of the case).

lol BigDK, I may very well have caused all the problems... but, I wasn't required to RMA anything... I had 30 days to get everything exchanged so I decided to exchange the motherboard because one of the pins appeared a little fishy (which is where I believe my troubles started, and which may have caused the "spot" on my CPU)... I RMA'd the video card because I had no way of testing it, and the few days that my system was actually running, I kept getting ATI2DVAG errors which from what I have read can be software/driver OR hardware related... didn't know what the problem was so I just RMA'd everything!

anyway thanks for the input, I will try to install this CPU then and see what happens... otherwise I'm gonna go buy the Q9450 (in stock at micro center for 300 dollars USD!) WOOT
