Damaged silver ribbon cable??

Would a damaged silver ribbon cable cause the disc tray to eject over and over? Thanks.

 

if it is the power/eject ribbon then it is possible. They are cheap and pretty easy to replace so you may want to do that and see if the problem gets solved.

 

It is the power/eject cable. I have another operational ps2 (different version) can I simply swap them despite being different versions?

 

I think so, yes. when i have seen them sold i do not remember them having versions listed like other parts.
