Hi. I installed Nero 7, since Nero 6.x wasn't able to recognize my CD-RW unit (but it might recognize my external DVD/CD-RW unit).
    What I found is this:
    1) Nero 7.0.x was OK, but when I tried to encode audio CD using MP3 VBR files, it made hear some 'scratches' and the audio-CD was no good. Fortunately, once I decompressed the MP3 files to WAV files (for instance, using EAC) the audio-CD made using the WAV files was correct
    2) I found, on Ahead's site, that Nero recently upgraded up to v7.2.3.b fact which, they said, fixed that 'MP3 problem'.

The result of my upgrade from Nero 7.0.x to Nero 7.2.3b was that Nero 7.2.3b seems to be significantly worse than version 7.0.x.
    - when I record a DVD-movie on a DVD, 50% of them I waw made the DVD appear as it wat "scratched" (when the first DVD I played showed this prolem, I checked the "verify written data", and on 6 DVD I saw 3 errors and 3 successes
    - whan I burn a CD-R, the same happens, but with tis extra fact: once I erased a CD-RW. The effect was that, now, that CD-RW cannot be open by no CD unit (I tested four unit: 2 were mine, two of 2 other people), so the result is: the CD-RW is permanently lost!

So, now, I'm uncertain if to switch back to Nero 7.0.x (which seemed to have only the "audio CD made from with MP3 VBR problem") or to switch back to Nero 6.6 (which seemed even more stable; I just have to
avoid my internal CD-RW unit and using the external one, but at least I avout wastig CDs and DVDs)

I recently saw that Nero upgraded to v7.2.7.0. Is this decent or not?

Anyone had a similar experiance? Any suggestion?

The best 7x version is still 7.0.8.2 imho.

Run the clean tool first, then install that version.

The best 6x version is 6.6.0.18

in many ways 6x is best, but i use 7.0.8.2. I could update at any time, but with every release of 7x they keep coming up with major problems, not fixes. They still havent fixed audio problems, and all kinds of new conflicts keep happening. The new version doesnt seem to be any better than the last "fix".
But any working version of nero is better than nothing.

    Hi aldaco12
I had the same problems w/ Nero 7 and mp3 audio conversions.
The only version that fixed it for me was 7.2.7.0 - no other version did. But I doubt this version fixes it for everyone.
Some users said using early versions of Nero 7 replacing the mp3pro.dll w/ the one from 6.6.0.18 or earlier fixed it - didn't help for me.

I don't use the verify option in Nero but so far the last 2 versions I've have had no dvd burning pr playback problems.
Haven't had any problems re using RW CD's either. I have one that I've done a full erase on countless times and still good (for now at least :)
    All setups are different though.

    I'd stick w/ 6.6.0.18 - I still use that one too :)

Thanks. My problem, and maybe it's my burner's problem which has been very recently supported is that v7.2.2.3b made those problems whan deleting a CD-RW.
I haven't still tested v7.2.7.0. I went back to 7.0.8.2 as MaxBurn suggested because the 'MP3' problem isn't a very big problem, since it occurs only when you make an audio CD using MP3 compressed MP3 VBR instead of MP3 CBR, and by uncompressing every file to WAV with, fo instance, EAC, fixes this kind of problem.

Actually, I recently saw thet the problem of 'scratched' DVD was due to the Brand (Verbatim), because it occurs also now.

So, my only problem regards DVD and audio CD making, which as I said you, I solved by uncompressing the MP3s (for deleting or burning images I can also use Alcohol 120%, which recognized by CD-R unit also many years ago).

Which are the new capability of v7.2.7.0? There's nothing, on Ahead's site.

    Thanks.

How would I purchase v6 from Nero? I can only find v7 on Nero's website. I'm reluctant to resort to eBay.

    Thanks ... Mike

Hmm, it seems the pointer MaxBurn has for version 6.6.0.18 is not a trial version, so I can't try it before buying. Anyone know where I can find the 6.6.0.18 trial version?

    Thanks ... Mike

    Hi aldaco12
I have yet to find any release notes on 7.2.7.0 - so no idea what 'fixes' or 'improvements' it may have.
Nero doesn't seeem to always post release notes - even 6 doesn't have them all. Maybe it's a secret :)
Sounds like you got a bad batch of Verbs - usually great stuff.

    @sar840t2
Your best bet is probably to pay a few bucks and do the ebay bit on the Nero 6. Can usually pick it very cheap on there.
