Data Compression

    whats the best software to compress files to the smallest amount of space and in the quickest possible time

    i have 15GB of stuff i need to compress but it takes several hours using winrar and hardly makes a difference

    depends what kind of data you are trying to compress. Stuff like JPG images, mp3 audio, or MPG or AVI video is not going to compress very much at all. The reason is that they are already compressed and the software you are using, such as WinRAR has nothing to work with, as most of the compression possible has already been done.

    It sure sounds that way if WinRAR is taking a long time and not making much difference. File compression software is not a magic wand to get a quart (2 pints) into a pint pot.
