My MoBo has DDR SDRAM PC2700 333 non EEC RAM and I recently added a 1GB stick but this caused the PC to keep re-booting without getting to Windows. I only have 768MB of RAM currently installed in 2 slots but each slot can run 1GB so I thought the new memeory should have worked. I ran a scan with Crucial.com first. My MoBo is a GMate 7VT600-RZ with AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Model 10, Stepping 0 1919 MHz. It does not support Dual Channel. The Module I tried was a 1GBUFUTULAB PC2700 DDR SDRAM 128Mx64.(Nothing else printed on the stick). I have not been able to find out any more info on this one. Does anybody know about this brand who can confirm the full spec or suggest a possible cause for it's failure ? Thanks.
Try to balance your memory slot on your motherboard by installing equal amounts of memory.Install one stick at a time between each boot rather than putting them all in at the same time.
Thanks for that. I have just tried installing the 1GB on its own and the PC will not boot up. Is it possible the DIMM is ECC and not Non ECC which is what I need?
This could be possible it is always best to check Ram compatability with your motherboard before you purchase. You will be able to check this online at your motherboard official web page where it will give you a list of all suitable Ram for your motherboard.
Yes, I know my mobo will only take non ECC chips. Unfortunately I bought the module as it did not specify either way so I presumed (incorrectly) that it was the normal non ECC. Also I am not familiar with the Brand so altogether it was a bit of a disaster! Thanks for your input anyway
I generally stick to Corsair non-ECC RAM and have very few problems. Other brand names like Mushkin, Crucial, G-Skill and OCZ are also fine.
