w00t.. I finally got my drive to take the region setting after doing a fresh install of XP, and setting it before I put any additional software on the machine. (I was previously running a beta build of Windows Media Center) My current complaint with the drive is that I cannot burn DVD+R ISO images using DVD Decrypter over 1X! Even if I turn off I have DMA enabled for the drive controller (I think -- see below), I am using 8X media (verified with DVD Identifier and DVD Decrypter) For DMA, I have Windows XP set to "DMA if Available" for the device -- however Current Mode still shows PIO, even after a reboot. Is that normal? (This is with no disk in and a blank disk in, I haven't checked it while burning) I can see from the DVD Decrypter log that I requested 8X but that it then changes to 1X. I turned on debug logging for DVD Decrypter. I noticed these things in the log: I 14:18:35 CDB Interpretation: Read DVD Structure - ADIP Information E 14:18:35 SENSE: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 24 00 00 00 00 00 E 14:18:35 SENSE Interpretation: Invalid Field in CDB I 14:18:35 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:35 CDB: AD 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 08 04 00 00 I 14:18:48 Destination Device: [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:48 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: MCC-003-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x) I 14:18:48 Destination Media Sectors: 2,295,104 I 14:18:48 Write Mode: DVD I 14:18:48 Write Speed: 8x I 14:18:48 Test Mode: No I 14:18:48 BURN-Proof: Disabled I 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:48 CDB: 1E 00 00 00 01 00 I 14:18:48 CDB Interpretation: Prevent/Allow Medium Removal I 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:48 CDB: 35 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 I 14:18:48 CDB Interpretation: Synchronise Cache I 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:48 CDB: B6 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 1C 00 I 14:18:48 CDB Interpretation: Set Streaming I 14:18:48 BUFFER: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 22 E1 1E FF FF FF FF 00 00 03 E8 00 00 2B 48 00 00 03 E8 I 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:48 CDB: AC 14 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 I 14:18:48 CDB Interpretation: Get Performance I 14:18:48 BUFFER: 00 00 00 14 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 69 00 23 05 3F 00 00 05 69 W 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E - Selected Write Speed: 11,080 KB/s (8x) W 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E - Actual Write Speed: 1,385 KB/s (1x) I 14:18:48 [1:1:0] OPTORITE DVD RW DD0405 150E (E I 14:18:48 CDB: 46 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 0C 00 You can see it is set to 8X and yet it drops to 1X for some reason Any pointers? I just applied the new 160E firmware now, I'll reply if that fixes it.
Same results with the 160E -- still only writes at 1X. I checked while it was burning and the current mode on the secondary IDE Master is still PIO Mode... The motherboard is a Asus P5B533 -- I checked the BIOS and the drive is set to UDMA Mode 2. Help! Thanks..
Is your burner connected to the Secondary IDE Channel? If it is and shows PIO mode, did you uninstall the Secondary IDE Channel, before you rebooted? If not, do so, and see if there is a change.
Thanks for the advice! I actually ended up switching the drive out to another machine (I wanted to swap a burner for a reader anyway) and it had no problem running in UDMA Mode 2 on the new machine. But yes, it was connected to the secondary channel, and I hadn't uninstalled it before rebooting. I'll keep that advice in mind in the future. Thanks!
