    Hi

I have been updating 3 Genuine Starview Boxes over the last few months and all gone well so far.

A pal in the office asks me to do his for him no bother.... I downloaded the thebox_Ireland_H20070705_450eE_api and now the thing won't turn on at all.

After some reading I realise there are such things as clones....

If anyone can help me recover this fubar it would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    R

you downloaded thebox firmware onto an sv ... incompatible!

get the CORRECT file for the sv (CryptStar-v14-GenuineOnly.zip)de-archive it and then try the following:

    1) connect the sv to the pc via a null modem cable but leave the sv switched OFF
    2) start the flashing procedure then after a couple of seconds, switch the sv on
    3) if it works great! if not, switch the sv off and try again ...

I stated above that I have a clone that has gone wrong ( I didn't realise it was a clone ).

The readme for the file you suggest I try contains the following.

    This appears incorrect to me.

    StarView 1 Fix v1.4

    Fix by : SunRise

    WARNING :

THIS FILE IS BASED ON CLONE
    KILLING FIRMWARE AND WILL BRICK
    CLONES.

DO NOT BLAME ME FOR THIS AS
    I DID NOT ADD IT.

Sorry to all the cloners out
    there but markyrushe pissed me
    off.

racer, the file you need is called CryptStar-v1.4-Core257.bin . If you go to the link at the end of my post, go into the Starview directory, then the firmware directory, you will find the file.
This file has been confirmed as the clone safe version by SunRise himself.

u did not state above u have any clones,
    starview 1 have starview files,original v.4.00ee,clones v.257ee fixed
starview 2 THE BOX have the box files
starview 3 THE BOX SUPER have box super files.
you have to identify your box correctly to make sure u are told correct firmware to use and also uk or irl based.
then there is the recent patch fix update to get ur box working again.

putting wrong files on boxes is damaging to ur health and boxes

I am having the same issue, I have a genuiue box which is working fine. My mate asked me to do his, he claimed it was also a genuine box. So I flashed it with the genuie (CryptStar-v14-GenuineOnly.zip). It worked for about 5 mins then the screen froze, He turned the box off from the back and switched it back on. Now the box doesnt work. No lights come on the box and seems to be dead. I have downloaded the correct file and followed the process above but comes up with flashed failed. I have spoke to a few people where I live and they are having same issues, therefore I dont believe to be a power issue.

    Please Help

    Seems like you have killed the clone boxes. You need to get them jtagged. You have a few options here;

1: For the technically minded. Make your own cable and jtag the box yourself.

2: For the slightly less technically minded. Search on fleabay for a cable, buy it, and jtag the box yourself

(1 + 2) both involve opening the box and doing some soldering

3: Search on fleabay for someone offering to jtag the box. This will obviously cost more.

The other solution offered was for boxes that still power on, and more often than not, that is just for a box that had firmware off a different type of box installed, say, someone put SV2 The Box firmware on an SV1.
