HI I just used configmagic to load a new eeprom on my xbox. I followed a tutorial and everthing seemed to go fine. I did relock the HD. After I rebooted the box it wont load. It is chipped modded. Powering on with the power button results in, fash flasing LEd for about 2-3secs, then it flashes 4 times, then goes solid. The tray will not eject. There is no video. Powering on with the eject button produces the same result except after the 4 flashes, it pauses then continues to flash. Again no video, or tray eject. During the 4 flashes the DVD is thrashing. Ive read several post but Im not sure that they are the same isues as I have. I hope someone can give me some help Thanks All
Just wondering if manualy opening the tray and putting in a boot dvd would work? If so what dvd image or file would I need? Thanks
I'm in the same boat. My mate did that to his, now I have his Xbox lol. If anyone has any idea.. lol. I can describe the same situation as you, threadstarter, I think we need a new modchip or something.
The easiest way is with an eeprom reader\writer! You can either make one (look at my tutorials) or buy one off eBay! These things are an Xbox modders best friend!
do you have a link to your tutorial? The mod chip isnt a cause or problem, in reading / writing the eeprom correct? thanks
The tutorials can be found by clicking my HUGE signature! The boot disc you'd want to try is called 'Slayers'
OK having read the link on the eeprom reader I have a question. What is that going to do for me? I need to get into the hard drive where my old eeprom is backed up. I would then think I need to reflash the eeprom. Does this reader and ponyprogram, allow you to flash? As I also have no video I would need to FTP into the box to recover the eeprom backup. Does the slayer boot dvd bypass the eeprom? ie/ will it let the system boot with a corrupt eeprom? I hate to ask you to spell it out step by step, but Im affraid Im lost as to what approach I need to take. Thanks
Do you have a good chip like xecuter3? You can bypass the eeprom by holding down the WHITE button during boot which will get you to the chip menu. Should've backed up those eeprom files to your pc eh? ;-) live and learn slayers2.6 allows you to boot with a totally blank hdd in the box.. that's what it is for. Then you should be able to either unlock the drive or ftp or whatever you want... I hate config magic.. it's a nasty app.. full of bugs.. Why people still put it on installers is beyond me. Just a little hint for you... changing the eeprom won't get you unbanned.. you need a valid eprom/hdd serial pair which are not easy to come by. I have a few.. but you will be able to buy a junked box for less and take your chances that it isn't banned already. It's not easy changing a hdd serial number. I haven't read chunks tutorials (no need... if you know who I am you will understand) but here is some further info about the eeprom and what it contains. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/357863
Hi Deadlove... sorry I don't know who you are but if you can help me... well Ill respect you! I have read that link many times. I tried just using the slayer DVD and it got the LED to stop flashing green, but still no video, eject, or ftp. Looking at the chip it is a DUO X2 GS. It has a slide switch but no button. IF I try to hook up this eeprom reader, do I leave the chip in or should i unplug it from the header block? If it should be unplugged that would make life simple as I have pins that can go into the header and save the trouble of soldering wires to the board. Again I would like to know if this reader will also write to the chip? As for the original eeprom it should still be on the old HD that was removed from the Xbox. If it is still locked I can get it unlocked, to recover the eeprom. In your experience does it sound like this is the problem? A corrupt eeprom? I read about marring the eeprom to HD. I hoped the eeprom I bought would have addressed this issue. Right now Id just like to get the unit back up and running so the kids can use it. Again any help, info or guidance would be MUCH appreciated.
Hi would the hdd key change when I over wrote the eeprom? OR is the key set for the drive itself. If this is the case then I wrote it down before doing the eeprom flash. I just dont knoe if it would have changed after the flash.
Ok, the EEprom reader is also a writer! It can easily do both. The reader allows you to retrieve the eeprom code directly from the motherboard. With that now safely in your hands you can easily rebuild the HDD in your PC by using my tutorials! As long as you have the eeprom, you can NEVER stuff it up! If you console was having eeprom issues the LED would be solid red! Sounds more like you have a modchip issue! Either fix the modchip (probably dry solder joints or loose wire) or remove the chip, get the eeprom with the reader and Softmod it! I don't like modchips, way too much that can go wrong!
Thanks Chunkhead Ill build the reader now that I know it can write also. I tried swapping the hDD out and putting in the original one. It made no difference. Therefor I would assume it is OK. I never thought about booting the unit without the mod chip installed. Would the related wiring (on the board for the chip)screw up anything by powering up without the chip? When I have some time Ill play with it. At least your making feel like its not a toss it out situation! Thanks again....
It's never a toss out situation! Keep us up to date on your progress and issues and we'll walk you through it!
ok i ran into this problem awhile back like a year ago i also had a chip mine was a x3 but i was baned due to a hdd upgrade and i did exactly the same thing you tried and failed the same way heres what i did i had a aid 3.0 disk i made just incase its kinda like slayers( Slayers EvoX Auto Installer v2.5 Popular Slayers auto installer is a very old auto installer for your xbox. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS OLD VERsION.Just a note on slayer from a site) only way better i was able to boot from it not sure if you can but it sounded like you got slayers to work anyways if you can then all u need to do is run config magic as u did before to reload the eeprom config magic makes a back up before it loads the new one so find that back up and load then save it and be sure to lock the drive
There we go.. from the horses mouth. I remember that one cearel. ;-) Just one thing about flashing red. If you have a philips drive they can cause this nasty, as well as strange ide faults. First try what cearel did, and then if you can get your eeprom back (or whatever data you flashed it with) we can have a think.
