kcole, With having XP. I believe there is a way to do it without any other software. Praetor mentioned it once... it has something to do with going into control --> administrative tools and so forth. You might want to PM Praetor and ask. Or you can do what bigorange suggested. Download the trial version of partition magic 8.
if you go to your help section in your PC and type in FAT to NTFS you'll get something like this:Open Computer Management (Local). Right-click the partition, logical drive, or basic volume you want to format (or reformat), and then click Format. Select the options you want, and then click OK. Notes To open Computer Management, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree, click Disk Management. Where? Computer Management (Local) Storage Disk Management You must be logged on as a computer administrator in order to complete this procedure. You cannot format the system or boot partition. Compression is supported only on NTFS volumes. Quick format removes files from the disk but does not scan the disk for bad sectors. Use this option only if this disk has been previously formatted This diagram will showyou a brief outline of changing over. You can right click on your partitions to see your options. You can do this without using PM8. I added 2 external HD's that were FAT32 to my PC and this is how I did both. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]........Dell Media4600, XP home,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz, 512MB, 280 HD w/8MB, 17" flat panel, AIO-A920, 8x DVD-ROM, integrated 5.1 audio, HP dc4000, Plextor PX-708UF[/small]
My C: says 69.2GB Also it says file system: NTFS does that mean I am already on NTFS? If so, why might decrypter have given me the FAT32 message?
okay, Ive found out more stuff that might be helpful to you in helping me. My C: is NTFS My D: is FAT32 (my D is my hp recovery drive and it is very full 4.46 of 5.26 is used) should by d: be interfereing in the dvd burnig process??
Because your temp. path for decrypter is wrong. Change your path to you C drive instead of your D. Do you have another harddrive or a recovery drive?
i went into decrypter, under tools and settings and changed the "default destination" from "automatic" to "custom" and then specified my C; drive. Do you think this is right?
well it got one burned with decrypter! Shrink didn't launch decrypter (i did have the box checked) but I opened decrypter separately and was able to get it to work by choosing the ISO file made by Shrink. (at least this is what I think I did). Thanks so much for all the help. I am just holding my breath until I get another couple under my belt adn then I can say I have this figured out. Thanks
Keep going you seem to have it. Practice makes perfect!! (I just gave this talk to my son my mind must be stuck in a loop)
kcole, For Shrink, you could try re-installing it. And make sure Shrink's temp path is to your C drive.
Better that to your C: ddrive you should have make a folder on your desktop called "ripped movies" or whatever tickles your fancy and direct Shrink to htat folder.
Dang! missed that! convert your file structure from fat32, it will start you on the true burning path
Yes, but it was his recovery drive. His temp path was to his fat32 recovery drive, instead of his ntfs C drive. Praetor, What is the way to change from fat32 to ntfs using XP? And do you lose any files?
Ther was a mention of that on a previous thread not to long ago I think scuba pete had a basic quickie guide how to do it and I don't htink you lose any files - normally. Do a search for fat32 you should find it.
