defrag

    Hi have tried to defrag a hard drive and i ma getting this message
    it says some files on this volume couldnt be defragmented.the files are \documents and settings\administrator.B89DA77, fragments 4,file size MB.ALSO SIZE 1.62 GB AND FRAGMENT 24,FILE SIZE 1.62 GB.

    Also it no longer recognises one of the cd drives, says can't be found, have checked the BIOS and it's there.
    so any ideas please

    Try running a diagnostics on your hard drive. I like WD Diagnostics but it only works if you have a Western Digital drive in your PC. You can also try to go to Device Manager and refreshing the page and/or reinstalling your IDE controllers.

    The reason why it can't defragment the drive is that it's a huge file and you probably don't have enough disk space to manage the defrag. (You will need more than the total size of the file again in order to defrag it)
    As for the CD drive, go to disk management:
    start-Run and type diskmgmt.msc

    then select it from the list and go 'change drive letter and paths', picking a different letter. See if that works.
