ok... this might sound stupid but anyways... i copied a copule of VCDs to my computer using ISO Buster with the option of extracting only M2F2 frames .... to prevent my son from watching them I renamed them to the extention .exe i can still watch them using mplayer2 or any other media player BUT I cannot rename or delete them... it gives me a file being used by another program error... i want to delete a few files (each take about 700 MB) and convert a few to DivX/XviD (or any other codec) so they take up less space but retain the original quality...

    what do i do??

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks in advance

Close Explorer, open a DOS box.
Move to the folder with those .exe's, and rename or delete.

Can't really be done. Divx/Xvid are already compressed. You could redo them in virtualdub, with a lower bitrate, but you're going to lose quality.

the movies are in mpg format the ones vcd's use... its NOT already in DivX or XviD . I want to encode them using a codec which will result in a better file size

Get virtualdub-mpg (not the regular virtualdub).
It will open your mpeg, and allow you to convert to avi, using any codec on your system.

    or virtualdubmod

original virtualdub can handle mpeg1, which your vcd source is.
