You may have to get a bootable disc such as BartPE and access <drive letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Desktop and delete the directory that way.
Do you get an error message? If so what is it and what is the name of the file? Also any information in properties such as maker or version.... any info? Change folder options to all visable as a hidden file may be using it. What was the name of the orginal compresed file including extension. Not being able to delete a file usually means it is being used by something or set it's self to protected. Also try a system restore to a point before you extracted the file. If all else fails post a hijackthis log in the virus room. And STOP extracting files on your desktop! Scan them and move them somewhere else first.
