I heard a rumors that dell was selling a refurbished computer when you payed for brand new one. Is this true???
Open it and find out, if you don't like what U see, send it back. It's under warranty remember? Bought 3 Dells, no probs yet...
Isn't it more expenise if you built your own???What's the differnce? Is it hard to bulid your own pc???
My dell was an ok first PC but i def. out grew it have a custom built PC now as in my sig. that kicks butt. and actually it can be less expensive to build your own depending what you build of course. the difference is you can custom build it the way you want it and NOT pay for the extra stuff dell gives you that you dont want or need and with a custom built PC it much easier to upgrade that with a box system. and NO its not really that hard to build your own system

So Far I have Good Luck with Dell. My Latest computer is a Dell 8400 that I bought online at the Dell Outlet Store, just after Christmas. It has 1 Gig of RAM, A Pentuim 4 3.4 Gig processor, A DVD-ROM drive and a DVD+/-RW drive and a 160 gig Harddrive. The OS is Windows XP Pro. I bought this thing in middle Feb 2005 and I was impressed. Because the outlet store is seriously overstocked after Christmas you can get some really good deals. With all the discounts and the free shipping I payed 707.53 and that includes sales tax. I really dont think that I could have built this computer for that price. I don't want to sound like an ad for Dell, I am just telling you my personal experiance.
I hope so for that kid's sake it was, cause my secondary pc has just about the same specs(different processor, but just good), a monitor, keyboard and mouse, and came at $490 including sales tax and shipping (to europe) *and no OS since i wanted to use Linux on this litle puppy * (and it wasn't a dell, but that's beside the point as far as i'm concerned)
dell makes an ok comp for the price, but their tech support (for home consumers anyway) sucks big time. Better off going to forums if you need tech support. Their corporate tech support isn't that bad though.
dellsuck, That used to be true about [bold]ALL[/bold] computer makers until around ten years ago. If a customer had a returned unit with a bad hard drive, they would replace the drive , clean up the unit , put it in a new box and sell it as new. Packard-Bell got caught doing it [ like I said they all did it] and it killed their reputation and now they are out of business. Since then NO one will sell a used computer as new, its bad for business . Ask Packard-Bell. That is also why Tiger Direct and other companies like them have so many refurb computers for sale. When H-P etc have too many units they dump them on Tiger to get rid of...
No that did not include the moniter. But It did include all the software. The 15-flat panel was only around 129.00 when purchased with the computer. One last thing, all outlet computer do come with new computer warranty.

catfreak, I live near a Fry's and I don't think they're that great. They do have a little better price over the CompUSA's and BestBuy's ... but I think Newegg beats them in price any day.
stay away from tigerdirect.com they use a 3rd party rebate company and they tried to screw me out of $250 worth of rebates over about 5 or 6 different items. I sent the original UPC codes with the rebates and they kept sending me emails saying I didn't sent the UPC. Eventually I got it all straightened out, but what a pain in the ass that was. One of the items didn't even require me to send in a UPC and they still denied it because I didn't send the UPC. WTF is that all about??
My only complaint about Dell is they are soooo proprietary. When it comes to fixing some parts you have to go through Dell. And I have only been able to find one other PSU for a Dell it's available from PC Power and Cooling.
yeah, I just ran into that at work about a week ago with their power supplies. Probably cheaper to just buy a new Dell, I think I just saw an ad for a Dell for $300 or $400 including a monitor. P4, 256 MB RAM, but only a 40GB HD, not big enough for any of us. Other than that though....
I would NEVER buy a Dell. Aside from their horrible tech support, they are not really the best priced out there. If you know what you want and are somewhat tech savy, you can find a better PC for a better price. All the ads they have for "$299" pc's are just for people that do not know much about pc's and they think "Wow a computer for $299 (or whatever)" but they do not know it is a striped down pc with not much packed into it. A friend fell for this, so while he asked the sales person what it had, the sales suggested upgrades on most everything, his final price = $1500 (with no monitor)!!! I bought my pc (CircuitCity) with those same specs for around $700 with a 17 LCD! They take advantage of people like that! You would figure that someone would have sued them by now! So get someone that knows pc's and get you something you want (or build one) for a far better price and quality.
