dell dimension 8400 ram

    can i add 2GB of ram to the 1GB already installed and not over power the 350watt psu in a dell dimension 8400.

    system info

    1GB of ram already installed 2x512MB

    3ghz cpu

    160GB HDD

    128MB graphics card

    Yes, as long as:

    1.) It's the same speed as the 1gb stick(s).

    2.) You have the slots free.

    3.) The motherboard supports more than 1gb of memory.

    it's a comp that im looking to buy its got 2 512mb slots of pc-3200 the now. im looking to add 2 1GB slots of pc-4200 the computer's motherboard takes pc-4200. it also has 4 banks of ram.

    so this should all be possible.

    will all the slots run at the slowest speed.

    Yes the mobo will automatically will slow down the ram to match the slower stuff. So ya better off using the faster ram and blowing the slower ram out on ebay.
