I just got a 27" 1440p monitor. But after hooking it up to my Dell Inspiron 660, via HDMI, it only displays 1080p. How can I find out if the 660 can support a 1440p monitor? FYI, the computer is running Windows 10, and I have been on the Dell product website to update all the drivers. If the motherboard HDMI does not support 1440p, could I install a video card in this PC that would allow me to use this monitor at 1440p? Nothing on the Dell website for my 660 says anything about what version of HDMI it has .
onboard video maxes out at 1080p. can install a videocard but might have to upgrade psu as it might not have enough wattage for newer cards. https://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/...esktop/inspiron-660_Reference Guide_en-us.pdf
Thank ffg7, I thought that might be the case so I put in one of my sons old gaming cards and power supplies. That did the job. I had bought this 27" IPS 1440p BenQ monitor and hooked it and was fully disapointed in how it looked, but found out it was only 1080p. Now with the graphic card it runs at 1440p and is MUCH better. Thanks again for the reply and link.
