I have a DELL Inspiron 7500 that overheats and freezes in 5 mins, the fan spins on start up then goes quiet, so I know it works. I am assuming the freeze is caused by the fan not spinning.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

What makes you think it's overheating?

I am assuming its a heat problem tbh, if I switch it on from cold it lasts about 4/5 mins. If I then switch it off and back on it lasts about 30 seconds.

Could potentially be a chipset heat problem, or a dodgy heatsink. Contact Dell about the issue?

Looking at the heatsink arrangement, I think it covers both the chipset and cpu, like a pair of offset squares with a heatpipe to the copper fins and fan assembly. I have checked they are seated and reapplied thermal goo, but the problem is that the fan just doesnt seem to kick in at any point.
