I have just had to switch laptop's from an HP laptop (official name unknown) to a Dell Inspiron 6400. I use a VGA cable to watch media from the laptop on my Toshiba LCD widescreen tv and had no trouble doing this on the HP. I made use of the function key so that the Toshiba acted as the only display and the windows properties settings to make the screen resolution for the 16:9 display of the tv.

The Dell is a different story for some reason. The function key is different to that on the HP however provides the same three functions which im sure everyone knows (laptop display only/ laptop & lcd display at the same time/ lcd display only). For some reason on the Dell, the third function to display on the LCD only causes both screens to simply go blank and I have no idea why it is any different to the HP.

If anyone has had any experience with this before or knows how to fix my issue of displaying only on the LCD succesfully any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks very much!

Okay well problem is now solved. After a proper root around the control panel I found a little program which sorted it all out for me and now I can get picture appearing on TV and not Monitor.
