Hello everyone if I am posting this in the wrong spot I am sorry. I have a dell Inspiron N7110 laptop it came with a 1tb 5400 rpm Hard drive. However I would like to change it out with a 7200rpm hard drive. My question is do you have to use a dell 7200 rpm hard drive for the computer. Or can I just buy one from somewhere else as long as it is compatible? any info about this would be great appreciated thank you in advance.
It souldn't make any difference if you buy one somewhere else as long as it is compatable with your system and it fits in the case. make sure the connectors are the same.It will probably be cheaper than buying it from Dell anyways.
alright thanks for the fast response I didnt think it mattered as long as i get one that fits and the same connector. thank you again

The sata 3 is backward compatible with the sata 1 & sata 2 and use the same cables. You can read more in this link below. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Seagate-AMD-SATA3-Standard,7223.html
most laptops but not all don't use cables to their drives as they direct connect the drive into the motherboard.
this is actually the hard drive that is in the laptop at the moment WD5000BEVT I thought it was 1tb but its 500gb. I think its a SATA 2 HDD if I am not mistaking. If that is the case and I go with a SATA 3 HDD 7200 rpm will I see the speed difference with SATA 3? Or will the sata 3 just end up converting down to SATA 2?
