okay, so everytime i load my dads laptop, it gives a screen after the windows sign saying i might have a hardware issue or something, and i dont have the recovery disc, so how do i fix this screwed up laptop?

it says this on the blue screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequete disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacterer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advaced Startup Options, and select safe mode.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xBF80FD94, 0xF9BDF7DC, 0x00000000)

    *** win32k.sys - Address BF80FD94 base at BF800000, DateStamp 4341dcff

    Beginning dump of physical memory
    Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

    Probably BAD RAM.

If you have more than one SODIMM you can swap them around. This will not "fix" the problem but you can verify it's bad RAM because the address will typicall change.

The you can start to remove one SODIMM at a time and see which one causes the laptop to halt.

If you only have one SODIMM, it's simple. Buy a new on and replace it.
