Just some info for people that have this computer or one like it. I have two, a precision 650(Full works but i don't use it) and a precision 670 which i use as my main. These computer uses two physical cpu's and has S.C.S.I harddrive support and two S.A.T.A ports supported. It also has two I.D.E connectors on the motherboard, i know the works right. These computer supports twin Hyper threading, so you can have two 3.0ghz Xeon or p4 Hyper threading processors in it will show Quad processors

Little Know fact about computers that support two or more physical cpus. You need the right OS to use the second cpu. Vista home any, wont work, Vista business lite wont work, Vista Business premium and up will. Its best to go with Vista ultimate in my opinion. Vista Ultimate will zap some of your memory to your video card regardless of how much you got which i think is a good thing.

You can't just put the the memory in any spot but if it is in the wrong spot the bios will let you know. I've read that it supports up to 8 gigs of ram, its has only 6 slots although.

To sum it all up this computer blows any thing i through at it away, paired with the right video card. I do have some trouble although .
I can't seem to find out how to get the s.c.s.i hard drives to work
if some one can tell me step by step or point my in a direction of a tutorial(not a history lesson) on how to get these drives going on my computer that will be much appreciated. My dell bios do have a s.c.s.i controller, -Apdatec- or some like that but it does not help my hard drive to be detected by vista Ultimate

You might need drivers for the hard drive during install. Try to call Dell, they should help even though the computers may be out of warranty.

the driver is not for the hard drive but for the adaptec controller. do you actually have a scsi drive & if so, is it seen by the bios? that computer was never set for vista as dell does not have vista drivers for it. that computer is a work station not a regular pc. driver link.

The bios sees them because if i press clrl+a i can set the drives as spear, use all five as one and all kind of stuff that i dont under stand. I called dell, some times they help, some times they dont because i bought the computer second hand. Im not the Original Purchaser/Owner.

I figured it out yesterday, i wrote down everything in the bios concerning the scsi hard drives, s/n, make, model, the controllers name and vesion. I did a google search for the name and version of my scsi controller(i typed aic-7901 drivers) and found this web site=

    http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=152891
(This site makes you view ads to download, select no thanks to all)

I downloaded the dirvers then went to device manager hardware and found the other tab with a yellow question mark, scsi it said. I update the drivers, choose not at this time and browsed to the folder i extracted the divers to(C:\adaptec\u320\win32) and wallah the hard drive showed up on disk management xp utility. I use disk part to configure under windows heres a video tutorial of disk part=

If you got a different controller just get the name and version of your controller and search for drivers for it.
