CAN SOMEONE HELP ME MAKE A CHOICE BETWEEN DENON AVR-2805 & ONKYO TX-SR702. WANT TO PURCHASE ONE BEFORE NEXT WEEKEND. Gerald
well, for one, take the caps off....... its not allowed here... ok, now personally, i liked the onkyo, i was going to buy that unit, but i got a Yamaha RX-V1500 for 100 bucks less then the Onkyo.... but i am partial to Onkyo.. but what works for me may not work for you, it just depends on what you are willing to pay (you have more or less narrowed it down) but what options do you want?
went to a couple of retail stores to check both units out. the DENON avr 3805 looks better than the ONKYO tx-sr702, my opinion. Also noticed, connecting speaker wires to the denon was easier than onkyo. Honestly I am gearing towards the denon. my brother owns a denon avr-3805. it is an amazing unit. thanks.
let me PM a buddy of mine who has this unit, also, another one of our members has the 2805 (just got it yesterday) so he can give you a hands on experience idea.... i guess i am not a Denon guy..
Hi Pecosngu! If this is your first visit to AD, I think you'll find its a great site. I've been to a number of these but AD has some really great guys who are really knowledgable and eager to share that knowledge and help out rather than just boast about their gear while ignoring us guys who want to learn. "Gear" sent me a message about your inquiries but I was gone for the weekend and came home to a dead computer. I bought my 3805 about eight months ago; when I was shopping and comparing, I had printed out numerous articles comparing the 2805 and 3805 side by side but I guess I got rid of it all; can't find any of it. I still have something very useful though; its a review about the 3805 which is a hell of a lot more than a review and set up tips...I keep it with my manual; its unbelievably useful: <http://www.audioholics.com/productreviews/avhardware/Denon-AVR3805_review01.php#> . I can't tell you much I love this unit! When I was shopping, I went in with a couple of DVDs to see how well it dealt with movie effects and I brought a CD I'd compiled with the sorts of music I listen to. I'm a music teacher and listen to all sorts of music from rock and roll to blues to heavy duty classical to Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatts (I got a thing for blue-grass). I teach piano and organ and every organ teacher has the same complaint: it's really rough trying to find a system that does a good job reproducing a pipe organ...I don't know why. I got a salesman with the patience of Job and spent hours running all the high-end AVRs through the high end speakers. I was only trying the high end stuff so while some were better than others, they all did a good job with everything from R&R to serious classical but as is usually the case, they whimped out when you put in some loud, wall shaking pipe organs. The 3805 was one of the few exceptions and was head and shoulders above anything else...even considerably more expensive units. Then I went and read a lot of non-biased reviews just to make sure I wasn't buying a great sounding piece of junk that would die in a couple of months. I ended up matching the 3805 with some Mirage OM5s which are active fronts and very color neutral which I prefer. I bought the 3805 first and then built the system as I could afford it. I love my 3805 and mirages and I've got the best damned system in the poor-house I put myself in! There is another sound quality element and superiority to the 3805 over other AVRs if you use the DSP Simulation features. Most AVRs have this and they usually function with the overall quality of the unit. Denon has more or less the same number and types of DSP simulations as other systems...Yamaha wears the crown on that one. One thing Denon has over most of the other guys though is the versatiliy with which one can set the parameters within those DSP simulations. Most guys don't bother with the DSP simulations because they simply suck in most units but Denon has done a great job with this function and the sound in those simulations is awesome. Take it easy guy. Check out that link above; I'm sure you'll find it really useful. Have a great turkey day! ... Gerry
Thanks gerry for putting your input, i was hoping you'd come to the rescue with your knowledge of the unit, until i read your puter took a dump....... hope all is well and you got it working ok. let me know if you have some bugs or problems left over, i know a thing or 3 bout pc junk too. hell, i thank ad for teaching me so much, but i also read all the time to stay up to par with the ever changing technology. there have been a few new threads in here, and it seems like i am just talking to myself sometimes. i take the time to respond to a thread, and i get no reply what so ever. i dunno, guess its the holidays time, some people just are not to worried about stuff. anyway, not to go off topic in pecosngu's thread....... i my self am trying to figure out how to upload mp3's to my cell phone. i have been searching the motorola forum lately for help. and, to add, i realized, we are online at the same time, i was just in another section, and saw your post here. if i dont get back in time, have a great holiday to you and yours and all here !!
@gear: Howdy Boss! Not much time to write. Had to change something; type in the hyperlink). Thanks for telling me you know something about PCs and I promise that you'll wish you'd never told me that!! XP and some software got corrupted somehow...no viruses or other bugs so I don't know how it happened. Tried everything to avoid it but had to do a destructive recovery. Everything's backed up but its still a pain in the a$$. Lost my Xcopy platinum though; I can reinstall it but doubt that I'll be able to get it activated...company went belly-up. I've read a lot of threads about how much XCopy sucks but works great for me each and every time. MovieDud suggested that CloneDVD2 is just as easy; I'll have to look into it. Must go guy...hope you are well!...Gerry
well, i dont use clone dvd, but instead, use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter, as well as anydvd along with nero..... keep me posted, i'll help where i can... ps.... good to know you have backed up your hard drive.... i need to do mine again, i have 4 dvd's of hdd info, plus 2 dvd's of recovery info and 9 cd's of backed up (same junk, this was before i knew how to do dvd) anyway, good luck, let me know if i can assist you !
I would definately go with the Denon it will last you forever...They use much better electronics inside..
Howdie Zildjian! Just wanted to say hello and welcome if you new here. I've got to agree with you about denon but I'm very partial. Judging your username, I guess it's safe to assume that you're a drummer? This thread is old, don't think anyone is ative on it anymore. Well, take it easy buddy...Gerry
