I'm thinking of buying a desktop computer off of ebay. Do you think it's wise to do this? I've looked into a few and just wanted to know what you thought about the prices and specs. Will be using this computer for gaming, word, internet, and pictures.

i'd suggest you build one yourself

i dont trust anything on ebay - never have.

most of them are "sold as seen" meaning there is no returns policy

as for the ones your looking at

the first seems too good to be true at current price 330 i reckon it'll jump to aroun 600 - 700 - although im not sure on prices in the us

the second seems to good to be true (unless its stolen)$157

3rd again i think these are going to shoot up - but you never know you could be lucky

i priced mine up in the uk - around the same specs as the first one and it works out at £512 so i think (qussing conversion here) is aroun the $900 mark

i'd suggest you build your own or visit a local shop that pre builds comps so you can compare prices - paying the extra $50 for them to build it will be worth it if you dont want the hassle of doing it yourself

There are some good deals on Ebay --- but as usual there are some bad ones too !

The Price you see there with more then 10 hours to go before the auction ends, have NO meaning.
I suggest to you to take a note of the closing time and come back and watch those numbers go up in the last 2 min. -- ! Sharp buyers will sit at the keyboard while watching the atomic clock readout... and they will throw a bid in the last 20 seconds to attempt to get it at the lowest price ... they figure it is worth.

Just Hit the reload key every 15 seconds or so during those last 2 min.

Good Luck in your bidding !

If you can get it at a decent price and you have an Operating system and all the other software you need , and you know how to install all of it. Then go for it.

    Overview:

    P4 3.0GHz/512/800 w/HT (socket 478) Apprx. $170

MSI865GM2-LS Motherboard(see below for additional specs) Apprx $90

    1 Gb of PC3200 DDR 400 RAM Apprx $65

    Seagate Barracuda ST3160023AS 160GB 7200rpm Serial ATA150 8MB Buffer

    Apprx $110

    DVD-RW combo drive Apprx $40

Black Bio II ATX MidTower Case w/ 450W Power Supply Apprx $70

This is worth about $500 just for the parts. No video card, it has onboard video. So if you are into gaming you will want to upgrade at some point.

    Good Luck

Thanx all for your comments on that. I don't think I have the time to build my own computer. I will have to look around a local comp store to compare prices. Thanks for your help!

see if they can build what you want & don't get a name brand computer like dell or emachine as a pain in the butt to upgrade.

Is there a good place where I can get an LCD Monitor for a good price that is reasonable. Preferrably 19" if not 17"

I WOULDNT MATE. THERE WAS A BIT OF PUBLICITY ON SKY NEWS REGARDING SOME FELLA PAYING FOR A LAPTOP AND NOT GETTING IT.
HE LOST £700. JUST BE CAREFUL AND CHECK FEEDBACK. ALSO CHECK IF THEY HAVE THEIR OWN STORE OTHER THAN ON EBAY. SOMETIMES SOME SMALL STORES AND BUSINESSES PUT STOCK ON.
CHECK OUT THESS LINKS FROM SKY NEWS IM NOT SURE IF YOUR FROM THE UK BUT THEY'RE THERE IF YOU WANT THEM

i will keep that in mind but the chances are very low and if you pay attention to what you're buying then it probably won't happen...
