Desktop, taskbar, start menu are all gone help!!!!!

    here are the following problems that i hav:
    1.only my wallpaper is showing i.e no items are on the desktop
    2.i can't go in to start menu and taskbar option in control panel
    3.the only way i can get into any program is to press ctrl+alt+del then go to new task
    4.my start menu in the bottom left corner of my screen has disappeared
    help!!!!!!!!!

    I've had this problem before. My problem was spyware related. If you can, try scanning your computer for spyware and adware. Once it's done and you have the infected files deleted, I would reboot.

    the computer that has the problem has absolutely no link what so ever to any computer or the internet. i tried what you said and it didn't work

    At the task manager press "new task",write "explorer" and click ok.

    Everything should appear again.

    my computer has the same problem, i've tried the "task menu" and typed explorer, but the task bar only flashed.

    have you tried to start it on safe mode?

    Have you made any recent software upgrades? Especially Internet Explorer 7 RC1. This happened to me and I lost all desktop, taskbar etc activity.

    To resolve this, boot up pc, press ctrl+alt+del to access task manager. Start new task, browse/find normaliz.dll and copy then paste to c:\windows\system32. Reboot. You should now have access to desktop as normal.

    Please only do this if you have recently upgraded/installed IE7 RC1.
