    Just a little info,
we seen a couple of problems from a slow hard drive or bounce of the buffer on xp and 2000.
While burning.is using mcafee virus program and a not needed defrag..even when the defrags says a defrag is not needed. While having mcaffee installed it slowed my hd down . Note I now do not use mcaffee..

Also if you have any movie files video_ts or a ghost back up on the drive C your defrag-ing they will not be defraged. I recommend that you use a secondary hard drive for your back up movie files.
And you will get a bad defrag.as windows can not defrag those files.

    Example with mcafee uninstalled.
    Transfer rate

    Small files 155 x 20893
    Large files 358 x 54968

    With
    Small files 85 x 16786
    Large files 272 x 48432

    B4 defrag.
    Small files 95 x 18435
    Large files 298 x 39453

I recommend if you check your defrag and it say defrag not needed, I still would defrag.
Note I never turn my computer off as I have it defrag evey night.

i've used diskeeper for long time, excellent program.
As to mcafee, i've been using about 3yrs or more, it since about version 4.5 or earlier and am still using it now at 8.0 - i always leave it running and after 2000 burns i can safely say it's never been a problem. however i guess virus checkers could be problems for some people. I think i'm just glad i didn't got for a Pioneer 110D after reading the problems with older firmware and threads such as this.. but i guess problems like this get ironed out in newer firmware releases

I Had nothing but problems with Mcafee but thats computers for you i suppose, i know plenty of people who it works for just fine. As for the pioneer 110D it hasnt been a great Jump form my pioneer 109 but it was the only burner my local shop had in stoc. Hopefully the firmware will get better, though i usually flah with the rpc1 releases. All my drives have been flashed with rpc1 i even flashed my Motherboard with a custom bios just to get that little bit better performance from it.

i just tried 2 1693s's, problems with both upon installation - probably a bad batch so i've ordered another LG 4167B to go with the other 4167B that replaced the two 1693s's, i'm a bit put off by Liteys after that (though my Sony dru-700a soldiered on for almost a year before failing)
