A friend made a dvd of some video footage using IMovie and IDVD on mac for me. It plays fine on every other dvd player and PC and Mac computer that I have tried except the ONE computer I use most often. The video is sped up and the audio sounds like it is underwater. This dvd plays fine on other computers and players. I can play any other DVD or CD on this computer without any problems. On this computer, I have tried copying the disc using DVD shrink. I have tried to copy the video TS folder to the HD and the playback result is the same. I have tried copying the files to CD on another computer and playing on the demon computer's CDRW drive with the same poor results.
The copies I have made and Video TS files all play well on other computers and players.
I have tried different make dvd blanks and + and - with the same result.
I tried swapping out the BenQ1620 with a brand new Sony Ram DVD burner on this computer and this one DVD still has the same issues!
When I try to copy on the demon computer it copies but the copy has the same issues in playback... yet plays OK on the other computers and players.
When I try to copy the DVD on another computer with NERO using copy disc, it fails to read and aborts.
I will ask for another copy from my friend but in the meantime, this has me stumped!

Edit: I was able to copy the dvd on another recorder using Nero but this copy has the same playback issues on the ONE troublesome computer. It plays fine on other players and computers!
    What gives?

    juicer,

Based from your explanation, we've established that this isn't a media-related problem. I'm getting the impression that this is possibly a codec issue. What media player are you using for playback? OS?

The problem exists in Windows Media Player 11, Real Player and Nero Showtime. OS XP Pro. I tried a system restore with no luck. It appears to be just this one DVD (made on a mac) and on just this one computer! The dvd plays fine on three other pcs, 2 standalone players and a different mac than it was recorded on.

EDIT: I wish there was a way to edit my post without a new reply but I can only seem to be able to edit the title??
Anyway, in the post when I said it only happens with this one dvd, I mean that statement to include all copies of this dvd or Video TS folders and that these same copies and folders perform fine on other computers and players.
    Thanks.

    Try installing FFDSHOW.

OK I installed FFDSHOW but now what. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it! I got another fresh copy of the DVD from my friend and the result is the same poor audio and sped up video when played on this ONE computer. Is there a way of determining a conflict? I checked the audio and video codecs and the only problem was with LEAD MCMP/MJPEG Codec(VFW) which indicated that it could not load and had problems so I simply removed it since it was not on other computers but it made no difference. Otherwise the codecs are the same as on my other computer that play this one dvd fine. Stumped!

When I rebooted, the LEAD MCMP/MJPEG Codec(VFW) reappeared with the same issue. Can this be related?

I just checked and the dvd now plays well on Windows Media Player 11, I reinstalled Real Player and that works well. Nero is still bad so I suppose I should do a uninstall and reinstall.

I "exported" the values from FFDSHOW.
I am not sure what that accomplished but Windows Media Player then worked. Next I reinstalled RealPlayer and that too worked fine. I then un and reinstalled Nero and all is good now. Thanks for your direction.
