Did anyone use "Create DVD with all Windows & Office Updates"?

The guide explains how to make the disk fine. However, when I cam time to use it, I realized I had no real clue as to install ALL of them. I ran the installation. Afterwards, I needed about 50 more updates. I realize only so many can be applied at one time. I am clueless as to if the utility actually works as needed. Was I supposed to keep installing each time I re-start until the process is complete?

 

probably mate.. that seems to be how it goes with junkware like office.

What are your reasons for this?
Maybe install an OS with updates on a machine without internet connection?

I use nlite for XP and vlite for Vista, haven’t built one for Win7 yet.

Using nlite or vlite you can build an install disk for an OS with all the updates applied and set it up as a hands free install..
nlite builds a .iso file and then I use Imgburn to make the disk.

That's what I do as well.. nlite.. but only for sata drivers usually (fony vaios in particular)

we all know (I think) the hopeless monolithic structure of windoze.. fart.. reboot.. move mouse.. reboot .. repeat until ready to cut wrists etc reboot..reboot..reboot

 

Flog me scum! I have too much invested in windoz. I have made peace with XP. It is not too annoying.

The problem was ignorance. As I surmised, as I wrote the post, I have to keep rebooting and patching because the patches can’t be placed until the proper version is active. There may be more than a dozen layers of patches. I have lost count but I am past service pack 3 now. I am far more pleased with the product now that I am using it correctly. I really wasn’t thinking at first.

2oldGeek, the beauty of this is if for any reason you need to format and re-install XP after the updates are no longer available you are good! They have stopped building updates and will stop providing updates one day in the not too distant future. At that time they will be priceless.

This is also WAY faster than even BB. The FTP service for updates is REAL slow. I bet you can speed up the process by more than an hr. The updates just for XP do not fit on a CD even after being compressed.

I have been using Windoze since ver.3.1 made it’s arrival and I don’t have these problems..... Hum, scratching my head.......

I have some “dyed in the wool” XP customers that I keep an nlite copy of XP with all updates and service packs applied so I can install for them any time they need it. I use Uniblue DriverScanner to update the drivers on their machine.

I also have some Loaners for my customers that have been locked with Deep Freeze. That way they use it as a virtual machine and no matter what they do to it, when I get it back, I simply Thaw it out and everything they have done just goes away. He he

What is an nlite copy of XP?

 

nlite allows you to rip a windows install disk, tweak it, install updates, drivers, customize it and burn a new instalitation disk with everything already on it before installation....

 

That looks way better than what I am doing. I downloaded it.

I have recently discovered my OEM XP disk will not work with any of the other COAs. Most of our computers did not come with any disks and the back ups are missing disks. I have recovered the keys and serial numbers for the computers. I have looked on ebay and have not seen of XP w/o COA for any of the computers I need yet. Do you have any ideas?

Yes, CoA or key and serial #. Like always M$ would prefer you buy a new OS if you lose your disk. In my case at least 1 or 2 never came with disks. Those were the harder ones to find. You would need to work for the company and make a disk then sneak it out. I saw none on ebay.

I may have found all of them for free. Torrents is a wonderful place to shop. The the finding is so much easier than ebay or what ever.
