I'm just wondering if it's possible that I did something wrong with the install or? I find it strange cause I can play my backup games fine as I programed the bios once using the usb method.

The reason I ask is when I try to save the configuration of the bios after changing from auto detect video to NTSC and click save and exit it just hangs. And also I burnt the viper ver 1.2 and I try to install it and it hangs at "Now flashing Viper GC. Don't Turn Off Your System 0%". and it just stays at 0% :(

    Could I have a faulty chip ?

The exact same thing happened to me. I ended up installing the Bios through the USB cable, and that worked OK. I can direct-boot backups just fine, but it still won't save changes in my configuration or save cheat codes. I'm wondering if some of the chips have faulty RAM? I basically waiting for the Cobra 2.0 firmware to see if there's any change in this behavior...

glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem :)

How often are the mod chip bios released?

There's no set schedule... it should be pretty soon, as it's been announced already. From my understanding, the 1.2 BIOS is designed for the original Viper chip, and it works with the extreme, but doesn't support the "extreme" features like the usb cable (except for bios flashing) and the 16mb of internal memory. That's the only thing I can think of that could affecting the chip's ability to save, besides bad RAM.

I'm starting to think I should have went with the Qoob PRO :(
I wonder if Divineo refunds installed working chips :p

I've been reading posts since october of last year talking about the extreme and the cobra 2.0 saying it's gonna be released 'soon'...

Could the cobra 2.0 still be months away?

Mental Cube was designing 2.0 for the Viper Extreme, even though no one knew it yet, so I think that's why they have been talking about it for so long... they couldn't write the final Bios until the hardware was finished, and they couldn't get the final hardware until just recently when it was released.

Considering the timeframe, and the limited amount of things you can do with the 1.2 Bios, I'm assuming 2.0 is coming very soon, probably less than a month away. If you switch to a Qoob, you'll probably regret doing it once 2.0 comes out considering what they're saying it's capable of... That's just my opinion, though. :)

Is it possible to switch from "Autodetect" to NTSC within the Cobra 1.2 bios menu and successfully save the configuration without it hanging?

The reason I ask is mine hangs when I attempt to do this, if it's not a bios issue, and some of you are capable of doing it with the GC extreme, that means I have a faulty chip and I'd like to know soon so that I can exchange it.

    Thanks

Well, the same thing happens to me too. Any other Extreme owners have the same issue? If yours works, please let us in on how you installed it, and what method you used to flash it. I'd like to get to the bottom of this!

Me too, I can't save my configuration on my Viper GC extreme USB.

Bios 2.0 will correct that ???

Like I said, I'm not sure. I'm trying to figure out if there's anyone whose chip actually DOES save. If no one's does, then it's probably the older software'd fault. If people start saying they can save their config with 1.2, then it's possible that there's something wrong with our chips.

Well I think I have installed everything OK but I am still having problems.

I have the Viper installed and running Cobra v1.2 and can play game fine but I have a growing number of games (burned from ISO or GCM images) that do not work, they register as being a game and the disk can be explored but upon trying to load them the system goes to normal BIOS.

I have tweaked the laser and everything appears to be fine with that, well at least it is reading some disks.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

    For more info:
I am burning to RiDisc disks at either 1x or 2x speed using both a DVR-108 and DVR-109.

    Is it the media?
    Is it the drives?

Please help... I dont fancy more coasters. lol.

    TIA!!

I think it might be your media, but to be sure you could burn the non-working iso on a regular sized DVD and remove the top part of the GC casing and try it.

Me that's what the problem was... it was the media.
So now I'm using regular Fujifilm DVD+Rs, which are great because I burn those at 8x and not limited to the 1x, 2x that I was when using the minis.

    I am using the DVR-107 :)

Would it be a better idea to use DVD-R or DVD+R?

My DVD+R's don't work at all, but my DVD-R's work every time.

I tried my Ritek DVD-R full size and it worked a dream. Obviously I can't leave the top off due to my 3 year old fingers....

But will now purchase some better DVD's.

    Thanks

you can buy a new top piece for you gamecube that will allow you to run full sized DVDs... and it pays for itself with the $ you save by buying regular sized DVDs.

Here's a link to the one I bought:
    http://modchip.ca/store/product.php?productid=16250&cat=282&page=1

I installed it last night, works like a charm... it's great.
    I think it's worth it :)

If you game doesn't load, does the drive attempt to at least spin. Mine is not spinning at all on large DVD-R. I have the case mod and original discs work fine, spin up and load. Copies on DVD-R Verbatim don't even attempt to spin. I think I adjusted the pot correctly. I may have to go at it again.

I have a Pioneer 107 and a 110. I burned using the 110 with IMGBurn. I just want to see if my mod is working. So far all I know is that the Cobra 102 flash went and verifies.

    Frustrated...

I am now using my Ritek Full DVD-R's and they work a dream. I have ordered a case mod so will wait for that.

The discs I was using would spin and go through the standard boot process (i.e. The system beep and then waiting to start), but the moment I started them it would stop spinning and goto the normal BIOS.

Now I am using the new full discs I have not had a problem. I am going to try some Ritek 8cm discs when I can get them to see how they are.

If by saving configurations you mean saving config changes on the viper extreme chip using Cobra 1.2 then everyone will be having this problem.

Please check the forum there are some posts detailing this.
