Hello This may a dumb question (or perhaps smart work around??!) but it would be great if you can help me/confirm this for me. Background: I'm using the latest and greatest Nero Version from Nero 7.5.9.0A. So it's Nero Vision 4.7.0.16 that I'm using. Problem: I'm trying to create a DVD with 1 movie of about 45 mins and then 2 slideshows (which actually end up as movies of course as well) Nero Vision only seems to let you set the bit rate for the whole DVD rather than - say - the (true) movie at a bitrate of 6000 kbps and the slideshows (scanned pictures set to music) at say 5000 kbps - I assume that the bitrate of the slideshows doesn't have to be so high as movie section(s)??? So I was wondering if it was possible as a "work-around" for me to encode the DVD at first 6000 kbps - saving it to hard disk - then encode about at 5000 kbps again saving it to hard disk - then take the *.VOBs for the movie at 6000 kbps and the *.VOB for the slideshows at 5000 kbps and burn them onto a DVD - also adding the corresponding menu VOB bits of course + corresponding *.BUP and *.IFOs.... Will this be OK? Will the DVD work correctly in friends and familys DVD players? So I will end up with VIDEO_TS.BUP (something to do with the dvd menu, but what?) VIDEO_TS.IFO (something to do with the dvd menu, but what?) VIDEO_TS.VOB (the dvd menu at 6000 kbps) VTS_01_0.BUP (something to do with the movie1, but what?) VTS_01_0.IFO (something to do with the movie1, but what?) VTS_01_1.VOB (the movie1 at 6000 kbps) VTS_01_2.VOB (the movie1 at 6000 kbps) VTS_01_3.VOB (the movie1 at 6000 kbps) VTS_02_0.BUP (something to do with the slideshow1, but what?) VTS_02_0.IFO (something to do with the slideshow1, but what?) VTS_02_1.VOB (slideshow 1 at 5000 kbps) VTS_03_0.BUP (something to do with the slideshow2, but what?) VTS_03_0.IFO (something to do with the slideshow2, but what?) VTS_03_1.VOB (slideshow 2 at 5000 kbps) What is a *.BUP file and a *.IFO file? I know that the *.VOB contain the encoded mpeg. Perhaps *.BUP and *.IFO are the files which "tell" the DVD player what bitrate is used???
Ok I have looked up what IFO and BUP files are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IFO IFO is a DVD InFOrmation file that stores information about Chapters, Subtitles and Audio Tracks. The BUP file is an identical backup of a file of the same name which has the extension IFO. --- A VOB file (DVD-Video Object) is a container format contained in DVD-Video media. It contains the actual Video, Audio, Subtitle and Menu contents in stream form. --- Anyhow if someone can reply regarding if I can use different bit rates on the same DVD in different VOBs, that would be helpful.
Since posting this question, I tested it by doing what I described and burning to DVD. No problems encountered on the standalone (i.e. non computer) DVD player I tested it with. So that's how you can get different bitrates for different movies on the same DVD using Nero Vision. Seems a pig of a work-around. I wish Nero would just let you select different bitrates for different things that you are going to burn to the same DVD. e.g. Movies, slideshows etc... Rather than just having one global default bitrate that you can alter. Hope this info helps some of you out there. Enhancement request is to be made to Nero on this matter.
