I've tried this on a few different discs, both Maxell 8X +R and Verbatim 16X +R, and I find it really odd. When running a disc quality scan in Nero CD-DVD Speed, I get drastically different results from the two drives in my computer. One is a Lite-On SHM-165H6S purchased a few weeks ago, the other is another Lite-On SOHC-5235k combo drive about 6-7 months old. I've tried scanning at 4X,8X and 12X, and whenever I scan in the combo drive the PIF errors pile up incredibly quickly, while there are barely any at all when I scan the same disk using the newer drive.

Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? Is the combo drive just bad, or what?

It's obvious the the combo drive is not as good a reader/scanner as your other drive ...
