I bought this for my folks for xmas. Went to install - the TV only has one input for a standard RG cable tv wire. My thought was to hook the cable box output to the DVD recorder RG input and the dvd recorder to the TV. They have a VCR, but I was going to hook that into the DVD+R with component cables to copy home video tapes. Cable TV worked fine thru the DVD R, but DVD unit did not play on the TV at all. The only way to get it to work was to run it thru the VCR and now,in order to watch TV, everything needs to be powered on and it's way too complicated to work. I hooked up my own home theater system at my house, so I know something about these and tried every option I could think of to get this thing to work thru the RG cables.

Is this normal for a DVD recorder not to work thru an RG input? Do I need an adapter of some kind? Is the unit defective? The instructions say that it can be hooked into the RG cable input of any TV but maybe this one is too old (bought it in '99).

    Any help would be great.
