digital storage disks

i heard of compact flash cards, memory sticks, are there any other types and which one is the best one to get, im lookin at digital cameras and wondering which card is the best to use, are there any differences between the disks, and/or cards other than size? is it better to get an internal stick or on a compact flash card its removable like in canons digital cameras?
