Digivox-T - Need help please!

Hey all.

I'm a complete green horn when it comes to this sort of thing so i'd appreciate all the patience, and clear and detailed advice you guys can give me.

I recently purchased the Digivox-T box to use for C**rus signal in the Clonmel area. I did have the Starview 3 but couldn't get it working. Our C**rus box has "ITD" written on the underside of it. This means that we are in an MMDS area, correct? I'm asking becuase we don't have a dish on the roof, we have a good solid co-axial cable coming in through the wall from the street. but i've been informed that Clonmel is still MMDS area, so swapped the Starview for the Digivox-T. I guess my first query is 1) Can anyone confirm that i have the right box for Clonmel?

2nd point is that when i hooked the Digivox-T up and did a scan i got no channels. So i decided to hook it up to the PC with the RS232 cable and this is where is a grey area for me. (I'm only familar with the Starview boxes, so i've never had to update firmware)

I downloaded the bin file through downloader 10 to my box, but there were 2 bin files, identically named, identical sizes, so i only installed the first one, shut everything down, and went to hook the box up to the telly. Now when i turn the box back on, i get a "CHDL" message. Having read up a bit on this i've found out that it means the flash wasn't completed correctly.

I've read the threads here advising to turn the box off, start the download again, and then flick it back on, that this should fix it, but while this gets it to start the download, every time it gets to the end of it, it tells me the flash failed. It also doesn't count from 1-100 like it did the original time, it says FL._c

2) Can anyone please link me to the most up to date and correct bin files i need to correctly prepare my Digivox-T please, just so that i know the flash isn't failing becuase i'm trying a corrupted file.

Beyond that i would appreciate any adivce anyone else has, as i am at my wits end now, this being teh 2nd box i've tried.
Is flashing the box the equivalent of entering teh codes every time they roll, as used to be the case the odd time with the STarview box, or is it a seperate thing i'm doing to the box? Do i have to enter codes seperately each time the change via the RS232 cable?

If someone could actually explain what it is i'm actually doing to the box atm, i'd be grateful, as all i'm doing is going through a step by step A4 sheet i printed off, with no real idea of what it does.

Oh and if anyone has advice but doesn't want to give it on a public forum for obvious reasons, a private message would be fine.

Ok, managed to solve my chdl problem, got tyhe correct bin file, and updated it fine.

But now i'm back to the problem i had earlier, and the same problem i had with the Starview 3 box when i treid it too. I do an automatic channel scan, and it finds 0 channels, and completes is about 3 seconds. I deffo have emu turned on.

I guess i'm really looking for confirmation that Ch*r*s in Clonmel provide an MMDS signal and not a true cable one. Does anyone know 100% for sure?.

I had no joy scanning for channels with teh Starview 3 box either, and when i read somewhere here that if your original Ch*r*s box has ITD written underneath it then you're in an MMDS area, and ours did, i swapped the box for a t-type with the crowd i bought it from. I really would have thought we were cable going by the line coming into the house though.

All advice greatly received. Cheers. Has anyone here had any jot with any box in Clonmel? Is there a difference between a Digivox-T and The Box-T?

 

'DigivoxT and The Box T are both for mmds signals , you will have to find out for def whether you are on true cable or mmds, are you sure the feed to your house is live(connected)!
Start manually scanning at freq 218mHz (218000) and keep going adding 8mHz each time(next would be 226000) all the way up to 600-700 and see do you get anything! Its worth a try anyway!

 

Yeah, i'm thinking of just ringing chorus and asking them what kind of signal it is in clonmel!

I can't even get off the menu screen though. When i hit exit it does nothing. I'll go mad if i had the right box first time round. But i couldn't find anything on a scan with that one either.

I might try a manual scan, why not i guess. Ever hear of it turning up something that an auto scan didn't in this way though?

hi there chester77.if you cant find any channels on either box(considering they are differant),your feed must be dead.maybe you can find where it comes into the house and have a look !!!!

 

Feed isn't dead, as we are receiving the basic digital package through our ch*r*s box the whole time.

Anyway, i just rang them, and if anyone is interested, cos i see it asked here quite a bit, they confirmed to me that Clonmel town itself is definitely a digital "true cable" area, despite the fact that ITD is written on the underside of the sagem boxes that ch*r*s themselves provide.
The areas outside of town, i.e. Kilsheelan etc, are MMDS.

So back to the drawing board.

Yup, seems so. Hopefully someone from Clonmel who's had some joy will adivse a box type.

 

Clonmel has a communal system with a ch*rus mmds aerial at the headend and they convert the channels to a higher frequency range than usual.
The first valid frequency is 506mhz.

 

Well, that answers that!
Lots of choice for cable boxes, from other post= most are cloned now but the digivox Xl had not been, so maybe that would be a good bet. Just a suggestion

so this means the digivox t shud then work in clonmel then?

 

A ch*rus mmds signal is coming down the line but in a higher frequency range than usual. The automatic scan doesn't cover that range. Thats all.
Every T box is working with a manual scan.

They must have been spoofing ya!!

 

Thats why i said do manual scan as there was another post like this one a while ago in Kilkenny area and freq was higher than normal!

So i'll start the manual scan at 506mhz then. Anything else i need to know? Do a scan at what, every 8mhz after that as Tomhick suggested?

I had the box packed back in it's box, ready to return in the post tomorrow morning. I have given up completely.
